Now that the new iMacs are out, I'm kicking myself for buying a PM 1.8. Could have bought an iMac with a 17' display, bigger HD and more RAM for less. I haven't even received my PM yet and I'm already regretting it. Kinda bummed. I may just turn around and try to sell it and buy an iMac. Dunno what to do.

Eh, last revision's iMac was a better deal than the 1.8 PM too.

I would have gone for a Dual G4 or the iMac over the 1.8. But you never know, you may end up being happy with it once you get it. The Out-of-the-Box effect can be quite strong.

I'm hoping so. One of the reasons I went with a powermac over the iMac was because of expanability, so who knows. Maybe I will be happier with it over the long run.

No your not gonna be happy with it. This is what I tell everyone in your situation. burn it... make a film of the burning... place the film online with a domain of its own.. get online banner advertising... in no time you will recoup the lost.. although u may need to be placed under the Mac burning protection program for the safety of your life.

Uh, you have 14 days to return Apple products.
When you get it, don't open it. Take it and your paper work down to your local apple store, and tell them you want to exchange it.

I don't have an Apple store around (that I know of) and it was BTO so I don't believe they return those unless I'm mistaken (someone please tell me I'm mistaken).

I don't believe he is.

I purchased my Power Mac last month from a fellow Oklahoman who was in a financial crunch and had just gotten the machine a week or so earlier. Because he BTO'd the modem off, Apple refused to allow him to return the machine. Hence the reason I ended up buying it.

Has Apple shipped the PM out yet? If you haven't got the notification that it's been shipped then you should be able to cancel the order.
- TiBook 867mhz
- Rev. A Dual 2.0ghz PowerMac G5, 3 Gigs Ram, Dual Dell 24" displays.
- Imac G4 20" with 1 Gig of ram

If it hasn't shipped hurry and cancel the order. With the upgrades to the iMac line I believe you would be better off.

Is there some kind of upgrade you think you may need in near future? If not go for the iMac.

I have a 1.8 G5. To me, it's a better machine than the new iMac because I can swap out the video card (which I will definitely do) put in a second drive (coming soon), easily change the optical drive, etc. The G5 will give me a longer usable life than the iMac.

But then I would've ended up paying even more. If anything, I'm glad I BTO'd.

Wanna buy another?

I'm sure I'll end up happy with it.

Apple not let you return a BTO machine, even if you didn't open it? Bullsh*t.

That's the deal. I don't like it either but I can kind of understand Apple's position as well.

Well I just unpacked it and started messing around with it. We'll see how it turns out. At the moment I'm almost positive I'll be keeping it (already installed another gig 'o ram and 250 gig drive). I'm hoping I won't regret it.

The PM 1.8 is pretty damn nice, don't pout. It can hold more ram and 2 hard drives, uses a desktop optical drive (cheaper to upgrade, new superdrives only run $60ish), has upgradable video (X800 yo!), and you can pop off the door as you please. Shoot man, It's still a powermac! so don't fret!

I doubt you'll regret it We have a 1.8 here and it's an awesome machine. As long as you have the room for it, why the heck not

Do you not have 'distance selling laws' in the USA? Over here if you buy ANY item "not in person" (ie. over the phone, via a catalouge or over the internet) you can return it within 28 days (i think, it's over a week anyway) and get a full refund, excluding shipping or any 're-stocking' charges.
The laws originated for the selling of clothes in catalouges, but work really well for Internet sales.

I think you chose wisely. More people I think regret buying an iMac, it's so limited in expansion - only 2 RAM slots, one HD, the video card isn't upgradeable, you're stuck with the same monitor forever. It's much better to have a Power Mac. As Tim Allen would say "More Power, More Power,.... RRRRRRRGGGG"

Plus, I'm sure there will be PowerLogix Dual CPU upgrades down the road.

On a single 1.8 this wouldn't be of much help, as the machine has only one bus, so you'd end up running two faster processors on one shared 600MHz bus. Ick.

I don't build to order with the intent on returning it unless it is broken.
