I like this comment:

THIS JUST IN:

Apple releases yet another "newer" version of the same product. Unnamed sources have informed engadget that Apple intends to do the same thing for the next 3 years.

Too bad two of the most annoying individuals, Bono and Oprah, are rumored to be behind it. Donating some profits to charity is good, but Bono? *belch*

I hear that Aids campaigning has become unfashionable for celebrities, so I'm glad to see that these two huge stars are supporting Red.

Sad how charities have to cast themselves as fashion trends, but that's how it is.

Not this crap again!

They are better employed and in better conditions than most Chinese, Apple is now on Foxconn's butt about how the manage the place and the people, and the WHOLE WORLD knows that the original story about "slave labor conditions" was inflated by the reporter and photographer whose story got the fuss started in the first place.

They are not paid like UAW workers, but they ARE paid better than most of their countrymen. They do not work in the kind of environment I would voluntarily work in, but I'm a wimp and they ARE working in decent, clean, well-lit, safe conditions.

How about getting back to what this special edition is supposed to get us to cough up money to support?

This just makes the brown zune look even worse. Even though it would be a good thing they would look dumb releasing a red device now.

That's a clever idea. Don't think it'd sell well. Perfect for a 30th anniversary limited edition.

Speaking of which, since Bono and Bill Gates are so buddy-buddy and one of the major causes the Gates Foundation champions is AIDS prevention/treatment in Africa, I'm surprised Microsoft isn't releasing a Red Zune.

Not cool enough?

It'd be cool to see someone attempt as a mod. Though I think it'd look more appropriate on a 1 or 2 Gen iPod than the newer sleeker ones. Particularly with the grayscale screen.

Apple is so particular about their brand and logo... they'll never let the rainbow apple see the light of day on any product, nostalgia or not.

Well, I believe that Bono requests companies' involvement. What better choice than something as ubiquitous as the iPod? Versus a new venture, that is.

Actually, Bono specifically cited Steve Jobs as being one of the notable corporate heads participating in his program. I don't usually watch Larry King, but Bono came off really well; I was particularly surprised to hear him praise President Bush's efforts on that front.
