Hi. I just bought a braaand new 12" PowerBook. (Huzzah!)
Anyhow, for the, Oh, 3 hours I've had this machine, I already have run into a small concern......When I turn on the powerbook, it makes this sort of angry hornet sound before the bong. Then it vibrates ever so slightly, which I assume is the fan? But is that angry sound mostly normal? It isn't outstandingly loud or anything, it just makes a low grinding "rrrggr" noise for 2 seconds. So anyhow, normal or irregular? Sorry if I seem a bit ridiculous, it's just me being overly nervous over my new baby... but better safe than sorry. Thanks in advance!

Could be the CD drive spinning. Do you have discs inside the machine?

Does it make the same sound when you wake-up the PB from sleep? Mine makes a pretty short, mechanical noise when I wake it up - I assumed it was just the CD drive doing 'something' and didn't much worry about it.

There's no disc inside but I think it is just the CD drive waking up. It does the same noise if I wake it up from sleep mode as well. I guess that's just the sound of it working? It sounds eeevil.

It's the optical drive powering on and resetting, as has been stated.
