Will never sink and ever stink!

Thanks Tewksbury, It sometimes takes a complete nutter like
yourself to point the error of my ways - this thread I will now leave
well-alone as I have all Max's excellent themes in the past and your one ;)

that's strange...i thought the titanic was a liner that sank in the north atlantic...

ps...if catsank bothers you guys so much why don't you guys just ignore him or do what underliner or whatever his name is and put him on your ignore list like he did with catsank and myself [like i care]...

I think the brushed metal part might just be a little too bright for my taste, but otherwise it looks great (though all the bright colors do get distracting).

this is the first time trying a Custom GUI and this is amazing!

I'm on an old iMac 500

Will this work (look best) better on the G4?

Well, the answer is yes.... everything looks better on a flatscreen than on one of those CRT monitors that the old iMacs use. Obviously there are G4s that use them too, such as the eMac etc but those old iMac screens make everything look worse. Maybe you should just go all the way and get a G5!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

For those of you who would like to use this theme on windows, there is now a well done port by KoL available. You can get it from here.

I'm also going to get started on the Graphite variation. I think I will go with Mac gurus suggestion and call it Smog, if I come up with a cool logo.

I supplied KoL with all my material + screenshots and I think that contributed a lot to the port and I think it's very accurate. I had to give him a few suggestions about minor details though.

About the icons set, I'm using the G5 set by iconfactory and it will work particularly well with the "Smog" variation.

Quick question:

Should my iTunes be matching the other brushed metal apps? I'm assuming not, since iTunes is a b!tch like that.

And if not, is there a fix for iTunes that will make it match, buttons and all? That would be sweet!

(Ok, that was two questions..)

iTunes doesn't use the proper OS X GUI elements, it has a custom interface, like QuickTime. I think an AA "skin" for iTunes would be hard to do, because, if I'm not mistaken, the background in iTunes has to be greyscaled, and since AA has a blueish tint, it wouldn't work out very good.

I'm not crazy about this theme.. although it is very well crafted.

Or rather, I wasn't crazy. that's until I activated metalifizer.

The brushed version of Aluminum is gorgeous. I wish I could move the images to the 'normal' aqua for a custom version that's all 'brushed' AA style.

congrats, max. this is a winner.

That grayscale thing is bullsh*t - I mean, in this day and age, how much are they really speeding things up by limiting those tiny ppats to 8-bit grayscale? True metal isn't actually grayscale, anyways. grumble. grumble.

I actually tried making an iTunes skin yesterday, on top of the fact that the gradient has to be grayscale, I can't even make it bright enough to match the metal apps..

Btw, 1.0.1 is out. Check my homepage.

Thanks for the Smog version, it looks great! I also like the new desktop pics. The light ones really complement the theme well.

Looks good - just out of curiosity, why MSstyle over Windowblinds? Also (I hate pointing these things out) you misspelled 'original' in the 'about' plaque (missing an 'i').

It's probbaly beacuse with a small (free) OS patch any XP user can install a MSstyle format theme, where as if it was a windowblinds format theme then only people who have bought (and installed) WindowBlinds can use it.

I love Max's themes, but I have hesitated in installing Aluminum Alloy.

And like the few others here, I agree that AA looks better on the PC than in OS X.

My 2 worth:
I feel that the theme part for the menubar looks a little "crowded".

Other than that, I love the colors

Great job Max!

Nope, XP only....Windowblinds themes will alter win2k but you may need admin rights to install it.

Max you've gone and created my favorite theme here! There's only one thing I didn't care for: the claustrophobic feel of the toolbar. Amazing theme and NICE job with the load-pictures! Beautiful.

Also, thanks for the mod Spaztik. You took 98% perfect up to 100%

Those researchers should probably define what it means to "not matter." Sure, I could read what you wrote, but it took a lot longer than if you had spelled everything correctly. Plus, spelling matters for the same reason most of us attempt to speak in complete sentences: it prevents us from looking like idiots.

Those darn buttons in the Calculator's "Advanced" mode!

You'd think they could have placed the graphic inside a standard button instead of making the entire button a graphic.

At least they're in a symmetrical arrangement.

In Panther the Calculator uses specific metal (from the Extras.rsrc) buttons and just overlays the advanced sign (sin, cos and other). So that's an improvement.

One minor gripe... Menu extras sport aqua-background, is there a way around this? Also a somewhat lesser one: the contectual menu has double-spacer due to added space on mine...

Log out and back in to fix the menu extras.
The double separators there is nothing I could do about, but I guess they might fix it in Panther since aqua uses separators in it.
