You're probably already aware of this, but I just discovered it:

Plopped my TiBook next to the microwave while surfing/reheating leftovers...start the microwave, Airport reception tanks...microwave stops, Airport reception back to full strength.

This, my friends, is a serious setback in terms of home automation/systems integration.

What's it gonna take for a man to be able to cook and surf simultaneously?

Try adding a 2.4GHz long range cordless phone to the mix.

Everytime my g/f picks up the phone, I loose my connection.

Go back to a cheap 900MHz one. I would like to have more range, but not at the expense of Airport

Or you could buy an expensive 5.4GHz one.

Yeah this technology stuff is hardcore... I'm lucky my 900 mhz cordless phone doesn't interfere with my Airport... it just sucks at being a telephone.

Then there's my cellphone that freaks out my car stereo and radio alarm clock when it rings...

i noticed that apple was getting better with the whole airport and 2.4ghz phones. at one stage if the phone would ring my airport would go down. but after a few airport updates it got to the point that i could talk on the phone and use my computer at the same time.

Did using "Interference Robustness" in AirPort menu help?

Interface robustness... I'm running Panther with an 802.11b Airport card and I don't see it. I want to say that I've only seen that for Bluetooth, but I briefly remember playing with that on a client's TiBook one time... it might be an 802.11g thing...

I thought you could just change the channel in the ABS software, so that it is not operating on the same channel as the phone?

Directly from AirPort Help:

Minimizing interference in an AirPort network

You may experience network performance problems if a microwave oven or other source of interference is used frequently near your base station. To minimize interference, turn on interference robustness.

Client computers with AirPort Extreme cards must choose Use Interference Robustness from the AirPort status menu in the menu bar in order to take advantage of this feature. Client computers with earlier AirPort Cards will already take advantage of the feature.

Not all 2.4GHz phones interfere with WiFi, in fact, the only brand that consistently interferes is Panasonic.

My Siemens 2.4GHz phone doesn't bother my WiFi at all.

My microwave (a Panasonic) will bring down the connection if the microwave oven is in between the laptop and the base station.

Doesn't help, if your woman uses the microwave.

By the way, I have three cordless phones, and they're all 900 MHz because of this issue.

I have a microwave next to my FW800 G4 (AirPort Extreme) and clamshell iBook (original AirPort). The G4 hooks up to the Ethernet cable and enabled Internet sharing. I didn't experience any problem while browsing the web on my iBook when the microwave was on.

I am living in a college dorm here.. I doubt that many people use those 2.4Ghz cordless phones.

I heard that many gadgets are relying on the 2.4Ghz band.
