Bluey is arguably a parenting show that kids can watch, too.

Very different shows. I lived the Ren & Stimpy era, but it really is more of a subversive pre-teen & older show.
Bluey is a true kids show that can be genuinely enjoyed by all ages.

Neither of these traits disqualified MAD Magazine from being the total shit when I was 7.

I mean this is probably a generational thing. I can’t exactly remember what MAD was like, but I’m pretty sure no 7yos I know of would be reading it today.

Why?
That’s not a challenge. Well… not yet at least.
I can think of dozens of possibilities, but I’m not sure which you think are relevant.

Again, I haven’t seen a MAD magazine in maybe 25 years, but the obvious answer is that I don’t think the content was terribly appropriate for most 7yos I know.
It’s the same reason my kids haven’t yet watched Princess Mononoke or Blair Witch Project, or read 1984. I’m sure they will at some point, but I don’t think they’re ready yet.
Bluey is a really great show.

Here’s one I distinctly remember. Where I got it says it’s from 1974. If true, I must have read a reprint, so I couldn’t tell you how old I was.
The last panel on this page is where they decided to draw the line.
The rest is three more pages of the same, which I’ll spare you because it’s rather tedious.
In terms of what we’re talking about, the beauty of this cartoon is the structure is about as complicated as Sesame Street. It provides unambiguous guidance to the more complicated themes it presents.
That’s what stands out to me as the bigger question with MAD of that era. Is it giving guidance a parent is comfortable with?

I remember reading mad when I was maybe 12ish? I liked the folding pages. But then I had older siblings to leave things like that around.
Ren and Stimpy is def not a kids show.
I've only seen a little Bluey but it looks calming and not terribly annoying. (I think I watched a few episodes when I was sick and could find nothing else on.)

up-dating
I like how all of the normal baseball players are on pointe. That's how you know that they're weak and to be mocked.

Fallout
Liked the first 30 mins. Sat though the rest. Not sure I can be motivated to watch more. In some ways it feels like I've seen it all before in other shows. Unfair? The youth seem to like it very much.
At least its not Rebel Moon.

My dad said he’d watch it, so we’ll get around to it sooner or later.
The original game is one of my favorites of all time.

Yeah, it’s interesting. Through 3 episodes myself. It’s kind of like a Silo **Ricky Gervais voice** without all that….prestige. Not necessarily in a bad way, it just really embraces the gore and schlock.

3 Body Problem
No mentions or discussions so far? I had reasonably low expectations but I have to say I was hooked from minute 1 to minute the end. Benedict Wong is excellent, nanofibre babe is... not.
Red Wedding adjacent scene in Ep5 is mad but manages not to overwhelm the show. Cast is established to be as expendable as they were in GoT, which is fun!
A solid 9/10 watch.
minus half a point for weak assing the theme tune/opening credits especially after GoT

3 Body Problem was just not good in my opinion. But that one scene with the ship was quite a spectacle.
Shogun is not perfect — the main actor seems to be channeling a homeless man’s Tom Hardy which is throwing me off — but it’s really good after 7 episodes.

LOL. Olds, like me, see him channeling Richard Burton. He’s doing a really spot-on impersonation. I suppose that implies Tom Hardy is an imitation Burton as well.

I read “Richard” and assumed you’d end with “Chamberlain”.

The second Cosmo Jarvis first spoke in episode 1, I was “goddamn, that’s a dead-on Richard Burton he’s doing.”

I haven’t seen it yet, so I still associate it with the 1980 version.

I honestly cannot recall ever watching that one. Weird. I remember it being all the rage, but I sure can’t recall watching.

I watched it, but remember very little. I would have been 9.
One Chamberlain joint I didn’t see, but remember being all the rage was The Thorn Birds. This just irritated me for preempting shows I wanted to watch.
Peak Chamberlain for me were the Musketeer movies..
