I ordered on Feb. 4th and my shipdate has stayed at Feb. 28. I'm hoping it ships before that but it doesn't look like it's going to happen also without a laptop right now as my sony dtr decided to bite the dust.

I talked to Apple support yesterday about the shipping sitaution (I need to know a few days in advance so I can get the daily limit on Debit Card raised the day it ships ... Joy). Anyway they basically said they don't have a clue, and in more or less that same language... even more joy. My estimated ship date is the 24th, I'm supposed to call on the 21st to get some idea ... but even then they didn't seem to sure.

It's slowly but surely killing me ... I'm starting to actaully envy those around me with PC laptops ... at least they have theirs...

to give us battery life estimates.

So where'd you hear this and how solid is this? Getting tired of watching 3 grand languish in my checking account... think I'll cancel my order if it's delayed and wait till they have some in stock.

Only took a month, but I think the RDF is wearing off.

not exactly. all companies will have the same problem getting chips out initially as it's just wha ttech companies do, announce a date, then don't meet it.

Intel will be far better at actually manufacturing them and ramping speeds with manufacturing increases. they are the industry leaders at this. you see other 65nm CPUs out there? hell, Freescale is just now getting to 90. Intel had seriously dropped the ball w/ design w/ the NetBurst architecture, but at manufacturing they can't be beaten IMO.

They are 2ghz chips that sampled slightly lower than 2ghz, basically chips that didn't make the 2ghz cut off. You can overclock them actually.

Ya kinda like Moto/Freescale "didn't make" a G4 as fast as the ones in PBs...

Here is another interesting thread to read:

According to them the DDR2 memory chips are the ones causing the problems. They say that there is not enough currently. They also mentioned that the stock configured models should be on time... lets hope that this is true and they will start shipping next week.

My guess is it will ship on the 15 or earlier. I don't think there will be any delays as other companies are just about ready to start shipping their core duo laptops too.

Is yours a BTO or shipping as-is? I ordered mine on January 11th at 10:01 AM and it has for the past couple of weeks shown as shipping on the 15th, delivery by 17th. I live in Surrey, by the way. Not far from London...

There are already Core Duo laptops out in the hands of consumers, so the chip shouldn't be the hold-up.

I am guessing the modification will make a difference. I spoke to Apple last Wednesday (on behalf of a client and myself) and the guy I talked to said there were three imminent mass ship dates -- the 15th, 23rd and another which I forget. Anyway, he said everything was on course to meet the ship dates. The stock is in the midlands (Leicestershire -- Nuneaton, I think) but modifications will need to be done in the factories where they are built -- Shanghai and Taipei, I believe -- which means you have a longer lead-time from ship date to delivery.

I wouldn't necessarily conclude that adjustments for one country will impact the shipment of items to another. We don't know how Apple determines what priority each product will receive.

You miss the point entirely. I purchase from Apple on behalf of clients all the time. If the item ships as-is, I usually receive it within 24-48 hours from ordering becasue Apple holds a certain amount of ready-to-go stock here in the UK. If, however, there are modifications to the standard specs -- extra RAM, larger hard drive, etc., -- it generally takes 7-10 days to get here. As-is orders (usually) ship from within the UK; BTO come from direct Asia where the laptops are built, hence the longer delivery time. BTOs also usually take as long as 5 days to "build" and therefore ship later; as-is products usually ship within 24 hours.

Not sure how you get from that to "adjustments for one country will impact the shipment of items to another".....

When I ordered the MacBookPros, I was perfectly aware that I was "pre-ordering" a long while in advance of the product line being officially rolled out. My estimated ship date has always been February 15th. Because the two machines I have ordered are shipping as-is, I can expect them on my doorstep very promptly indeed. My guess is that Apple is pulling out all the stops to ship pre-configured stock on time so that its stores and re-sellers will be able to get them on the shelves on time to meet public expectations. Individually-ordered BTOs may take longer, and ship dates may be pushed back because -- as is often the case with a new Apple product -- immediate demand at the regular retail level far outstrips supply.

Any thoughts on when we might expect to see the MacBook Pro in the Regent Street (UK) Apple Store? I'm travelling into London on Thursday 23rd - reckon it will be there by then?

I never understand questions like these. Its not like anyone's opinion is valid or matters. Just visit the store, ask if they have them, and go from there.

Actually, while I'd love for Apple to ship early, I would feel better if they can ship perfectly on their estimations. Sure, it would be great to have it sooner, but it also would mean that they aren't able to predict as well. Reduction of variability is key.

Sometimes I don't get notification of a product shipped by Apple until after I have received it. Has anyone else noticed that? Our company is fairly close to an "Ingram Micro", a distribution point for Apple. Standard shipping by Apple often is received by the following date (contingent upon the product being in stock of course)

I don't think this is such a big issue. If I get the product by the date estimated, I will not call them an complain about the details how it got there.

I think his issue is with having it shipped and not knowing. i.e. as some people say here they check multiple times/day for the status. Knowing that it's been shipped would at least allow for planning.

lurbano -
My order status reads the same as yours, but I checked my bank site as have several others and we HAVE been charged, Apple rep at store said they have started shipping from China today. There are NO stockpiles anywhere, they are shipping as they build them. Order status page should read SHIPPED later today...

If the machines aren't ship-quality right now, a few days isn't going to make much difference. R&D should have been completed a while ago.

Is there any mention as to whether these that are reported shipped were BTO or just the standard config?

I changed mine to the 7200RPM drive is all-- bank hasn't been charged yet that I can see.

Gr8 idea about checking the bank statement. According to my crdit card company, my card was charged on Feb. 4 for the new MacBook. Hmmm... What does it mean? Perhaps that is the day it shipped from overseas. Not sure...
Tomorrow works for me!
