Hi all,

I just tried installing a used Radeon 9800 Pro I bought on eBay. I bought the necessary power cable, hooked it all up, turned it on, and nothing. Would the card not work if I hadn't installed the Radeon software first? I forgot I had the CD, I haven't installed it yet. Would that prevent it from working? Or did I just get a bad card??

Thanks,
Tom

The driver comes with the OS, so it sounds like a bad card.

Sounds like a PC version of the card with PC firmware, rather than a Mac version.

As it turns out, I got hosed. I checked the 102 number on the ATI website, and it shows it to be a 128mb card, not the 256mb card I was told it was, plus, it was originally put in a Dell! So, I got screwed on eBay, big surprise eh?

Thanks for the responses,
Tom

It was advertised as an ATI Radeon 9800 Mac Edition 256mb VRAM, but here's what ATI says it is...

RADEON 9800 128MB VGA DVI-I TVOUT - DELL

Doesn't look like a Mac card, does it??

I've asked him for a refund, we'll see where it goes.

That sucks. Hope you can get a refund. I know some of the radeon cards could have their firmware flashed to make them compatible with a mac, and that model is one of them, but with half the promised vram it's definitely refund time. Good luck.
