and where does it end? will they start coming out with Yellow Macbooks to support Cancer Research? Green Macbooks for Treehuggers?
Colorware is an option, but we all know they're too expensive.

No, and I'd expect the keyboard and mouse to match.

Speck makes a red translucent shell for the 15" MBP, as well as a clear shell. They're planning on introducing one for the MB:
SeeThru Hard Case for 15" MacBook Pro
I think the red looks pretty sharp--though I'd go for the translucent shell, because of being able to put photos underneath. That way you can change the look of your laptop over time. I'd be interested in a shell only for the top, because of heat dissipation problems.
Real question on the MBP shell is what this does to the heat dissipation on the aluminum shell. We're already talking about a hot laptop... Even the MB uses the plastic case to dissipate some heat, though nowhere near as much or as well as the aluminum MBP shell.

Since you are such a kind and generous person of course, or would it be just to match your iPod nano ? I wouldn't get one.

I would say no as well, I'm too use to seeing the standard colors (black, grey, and white).

im a purist when it comes to things. Technology is one of them. So when you start messing with the colors of the devices I like is when i adhere to the basics even more. So my answer is NO. But I am almost positive my wife would want one. She already wants the red Nano.

I have a feeling that I would if it was done tastefully, but I would prefer an orange one - I always wanted one of the old tangerine iBooks . I would get the product red iPod if I was in the market for one though, as that's just cool!

no i wouldn't. if laptops are a target for thieves, then a red one would be a huge bullseye screaming "steal me"
besides, ferrari came out with a red laptop a while back (when i was still using pcs) and i never felt the urge to get one.
it would be interesting if apple is keeping tabs on this thread. i mean, it is not like they will let their secrecy go away to form focus groups.
i think the red laptops are for those who REALLY REALLY want to express themselves, and stand out just for the sake of standing out.
but then again, the ipod minis were a huge hit because of the colors.......

I would get one and would also like to see other colours as well. I say this only because I remember the days when all desktop computer cases were that ugly beige/off white colour and I shudder ever time I see a new one with that same colour today. Variety is needed in the world and since we will be given the choice to buy whatever colour we prefer, why not make other colours available to those who want them. I agree with Eug Wanker though, I would NOT pay extra simply for a different colour.

I was more than happy to pay $200 to get a black MB instead of a toilet bowl.
OTOH I wouldn't take a red MB if they gave me a $200 discount.

Heck I didn't want to spring for the extra cost for the black so that means noway on the red mb.

When you're going through an airport security line, there's much to be said for having an easily recognizable laptop. We all laugh at the news reports where the clone PC laptops get switched, saying that'll never happen to us Mac users, but you just never know. Or, for example, if you and a co-worker (or, heaven forbid, your boss) have the same laptop at staff meetings?
My son and I have identical 12" AlPB, so now I've got some Apple rainbow stickers on my lid just to eliminate any confusion.

I'd think hard about it if I was in the market for a new laptop, but I wouldn't get a new laptop just to have a red one, even for (Product)RED. A ~$2,000 investment is a very different thing from a ~$200 investment in an iPod-which I would go for in a heartbeat if I had $200 to spare, even though we all have our own iPods in my family. (I know someone who likes red and doesn't have an iPod of her own...)

No, because Apple probably wouldn't make a red MacBook; they would probably prefer a red MacBook Pro instead. Red aluminum looks better than red plastic any day.

I would if I was in the market for a new MacBook, which I most certainly am not. I love my white one, and don't need a second.

I think red plastic would probably look bad, almost like some sort of kids toy, so no, plus, I like visually the screen shows up and constrasts against my black Macbook. I'm guessing all that red would set it off less well.
The aluminum probably would look better in colors, but then I'd imagine scratches would show up more, and also, on my old 12" PB, I had a lot of wear/corrosion on the palm rests (apparently it happens depending on your sweat pH). That would have looked much worse on a color laptop, since the spots were a darker, graphite-like gray. So I'm thinking no on the color laptops, unless it was maybe just on the outside of the case? And that would be much less uniform and simple than the designs have been lately, so it seems unlikely.

I'd pick white over black any day, but a red macbook would be great. If there was one out now I'd be tempted to buy right away, despite how dumb financially it would be.

I would like to see a red one, even more colors would be nice. The white gets dirty way too fast. I've thought about sending it to colorware, but it's hard to justify the price
