I replaced my hard drive back in July and ever since then it never worked from the battery had to keep it plugged in the wall. Kind of a pain but still usable. Now it won't work at all even when plugged in. When I turn it on it lasts about a minute them turns off. Any ideas how to fix this?

i know the monitor is good it can power up for a min or two and run, not sure what is wrong with it. It's fairly old G4 800 so I definitely want a new one just don't wanna buy today if at macworld they announce some amazing new machine or faster macbooks for the same dough.

Take the battery out, see if it exhibits the same symptoms/powers up at all.
Try resetting the PMU as well.

Good advice. I've seen 'dead' or 'bad' batteries cause these symptoms. If it functions better with no battery (keeps running without shutdown), then you may hold out a week or so.

If not, it could be its overheating and the fan has died or gotten stuck. iBooks of that era are difficult to disassemble if you don't have the right tools. I'd see if you can find someone local who could assess its useability/fixing it.

i may have left a cable disconnected not sure, all i know is replacing a g4 ibook hd is a pain. I looked up the directions online and there were 57 steps, insane. My computer doesn't work with or without the battery. The battery life was about 3 hours before the hard drive crashed. I am just going to suck it up and buy a new one with my tax refund, but I am going to wait til after macworld just in case the release something new.

Could you bring it in and have somebody look at it? It could be a simple fix for all we know... I would think it's worth a try before going out and buying a new computer. Unless of course you were already in the market for a new one anyway.

i was going to buy a new macbook soon anyway, so i figured why waste the money on upgrading or fixing a g4 ibook it's getting old anyway. I just wish macworld would hurry up and get here so I can buy a new one, I'd certainly not buy one before then.

Good call... that's what happened to me when I bought this one... they came out with the core 2 duo a month later for the same price. I guess you have to expect that though, unless of course you have a huge reason like Macworld not to buy.

64gb of ram? what? I think the max the macbooks take is 2gb... well actually I think the newer ones can take up to 4gb now. They don't come in a 12inch only a 13inch. I think you can get a new one for around that price, maybe a little more.

i think he was referring to the rumors of a ultraslim macbook, with a 64gb SSD instead of a traditional hard drive.

Is the ultraslim going to be in the macbook price range or the MBPro range?
