My friend Steven doesn’t have a MacNN account, and it takes 100 posts to post here, so I’m creating this listing for him. As I’ve personally seen and used his computer I can vouch for all of the information listed here.
MacBook Pro 15” 2.2GHz.
Specifications: Apple-History for MBP (Mid 2007)
Laptop comes with original contents:
- Accessories (apple remote, DVI-VGA cable, power cord/adapter, etc.)
- DVDs: Mac OS X Leopard, Software Restore (iLife, etc)
- Original manual and box.
All Known Defects
- The laptop's battery, being old, is completely dead, it might last you a few seconds at best. You should order a new battery along with this purchase. You want the MA348LL/A, which can be purchased from Amazon for $80. Steven hopes that the other accessories included will make up for this.
- The remote has some small indentations on the bottom.
- After replacing the logic board due to the infamous nVidia chipset failure in these models, Apple changed the type of one of the screws on the bottom of the laptop, and now this screw can no longer be screwed back into the laptop, meaning it can hang out of the laptop, but because the top of the screw seems to be fastened with a cylinder, it cannot actually fall out. This isn't a problem for Steven because he uses the Speck case which keeps the screw in. If you don't want to use the speck case you could simply put clear scotch tape over it to keep it in. I will point out which screw this is in one of screenshot comments below.
Other than that the laptop has been very well taken care of. Most of the time it has simply sat on a disk in clamshell mode (lid-closed). It has always had the Speck case on it, protecting the aluminum shell so it's in excellent condition.
I should mention that all of the models introduced along with this one were affected by the infamous nVidia chipset failure (link above), and this one has already experienced it and has had its logic-board replaced by Apple as recently as about a month ago, so its insides are in "like-new" condition.
Perks and Additional Accessories Included
- Apple Care lasts till: 8/14/2010
- eSATA Adapter: $35 value (newegg)
- Black Speck enclosure: $25 value (new ones available here)
- 4GB: ~$40 value (laptop originally came with 2 1GB sticks): (from newegg)
- 500GB Western Digital drive, only 1 month old (3 year limited warranty): $95 value (on newegg)
Steven is asking $1,400 for everything, and that includes the shipping price. He would prefer check or money order because he "doesn't like" PayPal (I'm not sure why), but he'll accept payment through PayPal as well if you'll cover the $40 fee that PayPal will take (so $1,440 through PayPal).
UPDATE: Steven decided to lower the asking price to $1200, or $1234.80 via PayPal.

Yes, the two Apple stickers are included as well. ;-)
Note: The screw that I mentioned is one of the ones at the top of this image. It's the 2nd from the left.
Comes with AppleCare, includes TechTool Deluxe, lasts till 8/14/2010
About This Mac shows the 4GB RAM installed.
Disk Utility shows the 500GB drive installed.

It's against forum rules to charge for Paypal.

good price.
i don't know that it's against forum rules, but PayPal has some wording in their rules.
best to check on it, i don't have it in front of me now.
if i had the money & need for your laptop, i'd be all over it.

It's against PayPal TOS to ask the buyer to fork over paypal fees to the seller. Since it's in a TOS agreement, lots of people consider it a non written marketplace forum rule as well.

I don't understand why people explicitly state they charge more for PP (i.e., "add in 3% for PP", "plus $40 if paying by PP", etc., etc.).
Just ADD IT IN TO YOUR ASKING PRICE UP FRONT. If you want to get $1200 net after PP fees, make your asking price $1250. Done - you get your PP fees covered and you are not blatantly violating PP's TOS.
