what are .nfo files and how do you open them?? Thanks for the help.

I think there are some kind of Read Me type files that usually go with Windows software, I also think they are nothing more than text files so open them with any text editor.

Files with the ".nfo" extension are generally Folio Infobases. It's a full text database technology used by several publishers of CD ROMs - i.e. rather than develop your own software, you license Folio Views and Publisher and all the other softwaare.

Even so, NFO files can be opened by a standard text editor (I have them set to open in TextEdit by default). I don't think most Windows users know what they are either.

.nfo files can be a Windows system file, a Folio View database, or a text file commonly included with ill-gotten software to identify the release group.

Not if they're Folio Views files. They're in some weird proprietary binary format, and the only way you can read them is with the Folio Views program. Unfortunately, it's Classic-only, so if you're on an Intel-based Mac you're SOL.
