Hoping someone can help...
I want to stop anyone being able to access files on my HD when I'm away from the office. Thing is, most people I work with are pretty Mac-literate, and know that by booting from CD and trashing the Multi User prefs you can get around the Multiple Users extension.
So, the question - is there another way to protect my files from prying eyes?

Hide all the porn on a Firewire HD, then just lock it in your desk when you're away.
Some of those firewire HDs are even pocket-sized...take it to the bathroom with you at work ( That's a weird situation--stroke time, Gigs of porn, but looking at the HD is useless!).

Actually, the real intention was to hide ripped off Microsoft software from my IT department, but even then, I guess using MS apps doesn't put me on much higher moral ground than porn freaks like you homo!

Just a few ideas... - Unplug the power connector from your HD when you leave. Don't do this to the data connector, you don't want to rub off the gold plating on the pins. Advantage: Easy to do on a Yosemite or a G4. Disadvantage: You must never let your co-workers see you doing it, it is too easy for them to undo.
- Put all the stuff you want to hide in a single folder, which you make invisible with a CMM at the end of the day. Leave a different folder visible (with similiar name) that has tons of porn or other interesting stuff. NSA documents perhaps. They will not find the folder you wish to hide because they will stop searching when they find the "interesting" folder. Advantages: Easy to set up, probably effective. Disadvantage: Gurantees your co-workers WILL be messing with your Mac when you are gone.
- Do a little custom scripting, make a disk image of the driver partition on your HD. Make a bootable CD that includes the disk image and a script to restore it. And a script to wipe the driver partition.
Wiping the driver when you leave work will make the disk unreachable to nearly everything. It would require a reformat, or Data Rescue to access the HD without the driver. Advangage: Serious security. Disadvantages: Lots more work to set up, you must have a fair technical knowledge, and you could really mess up your HD if you made any mistakes. And losing that custom restore CD would be very entertaining for your co-workers and the IT department.
