Colour me surprised.

I wonder if they'll approve it for the iPad too.

What do you mean? Too much bad PR recently?

Weird. Going to theglobeandmail.ca gets me to the main site via Safari, but takes me to the mobile site in Opera.

Also, while it does seem interesting, and I'll have to play with it more, somehow Safari seems a bit more intuitive. Lots of settings with Opera Mini to check out though.

I just downloaded it from the U.S. App Store.

So far so good, however the webpage won't scroll back up if I tap the top bar in fullscreen mode.

Due to how the caching works all the pages, including encrypted ones, are stored on their servers.

Is there any way to make multitouch work as it should? I can’t login to a site because it won’t let me zoom in enough to actually click a checkbox – if I try to zoom in more it just does the same as double-tapping to zoom out.

Ya, I tried this out tonight too. I was excited to read that it allows text search on a webpage, my number one mobile safari pet peeve, but all I can say is ugh... If their goal was to make the internet unreadable, they've succeeded.

Opera for iPhone:

As opposed to Safari:

Now it could just be that I've done something wrong but I don't think I have. I played with all the settings and couldn't get a result that was noticeably different.

The first site I tried (www.tsn.ca) also forced me to mobile view as well, which it doesn't do to Safari.

I really like the overall interface, but I just can't see myself using this.

No pinch zooming. The tap-to-zoom is spastic. Like gradient said, web pages are practically unreadable. The two cool features are that it's fast and tabs but other than that it's not that great.

I downloaded it this AM and while I'm glad they approved it, I don't see myself using it either. It's not noticeably faster than Safari. And I'm not on EDGE enough to really need a browser optimized like they've done.

Cheers to Apple for approving it, but really don't see the need personally.

Nice to see it though.

I'd like to see a mobile Firefox.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I was excited at first - tabs, it seemed fast. But now after using it a bit, the minuscule rendering is annoying. You can pinch and zoom, but it looks like that only works in portrait mode. Or at least sometimes that works, and it's not as fine grained as Safari. Worth a try though.

I downloaded it to my original iphone yesterday and I'm not impressed with it either. In addition to everyone's comments about unreadable text and zooming/scrolling quirks, I don't find it very fast on my edge connection or even when connected via wifi.

I'll spend some more time with the settings and getting used to it, but I have a feeling I'll be back on safari by the end of the week.

It seems rough around the edges. I'm sure with time they'll clean it up. I like the Speed Dial page but think the name is stupid. I also like how they implemented tabbed browsing. The microscopic page rendering is just plain weird. Finally, it's the speed that I love. On my tired old 1st gen iPhone it is orders of magnitude faster than Safari. Not sure if I'll stick with it...but I've been using it as my primary browser on the phone since I downloaded it yesterday.

Interesting: www.td.com/w

The fonts for that banking site are so small they're unreadable in Safari, but it looks like a normal mobile site in Opera. To use that site in Safari, every time you load a page you have to zoom in to be able to read anything. Very, very annoying to use in Safari, but OK in Opera.

It's kinda moot though now, since TD just released a dedicated iPhone banking app, which not surprisingly works the best out of all the above options.

I agree. I half wonder if they left off the polishing because they didn't really expect Apple to let the app through? What I really hope for, though, is that this paves the way for mobile Firefox.

Absolutly terrible. DIdn't render 1 site I went to properly and they are just tables and simple CSS. The scrolling sucks too.

I'll be sticking to a few seconds longer waited for non-cashed properly rendered sites instead.

All that aside how much browsing do you guys do in safari? I read RSS And it uses the built in webkit anyway. If I want to google something I use the google app. IMDB the app etc. A separate browser is used very differently on mobiles vs desktops.
