I have a 500 mhz G4 that came with a dvd ram. I wanted to know if toast 5 supports the dvd ram. And is Toast 5 a beta version?

Its a DVD Ram drive, why would you need to use toast???
(CDR, CDRW, & DVDr are not supported by the drive)
A dvd ram drive can only write to dvd ram disks
This is supported at system level, the drive just appears like another volume.

Toast 5 will work with your DVD-RAM drive. FYI, it's used if you want to preview what your DVD will look like and uses a locked, UDF bridge 1.0.2 file system. After you've written to DVD-RAM with Toast, you'll need to reformat the disk in Drive Setup as the Finder will see a writeprotected volume.

But wouldn't that also mean toast could write some kind of dvd image to your hard drive anyway.
I interpreted the question to mean, could you burn regular dvds on it....
