I have just moved from my Cube to a G4. All the data and applications I have moved over with Synchronize X Plus.

Problem is that when I plug in my iPod now, the G4 won't recognise it. It appears in the System Profiler as an iPod but doesn't mount on the desktop or start iTunes.

Using the same FireWire cable on my Ti Powerbook works fine. The iPod is charging on the G4 but won't mount. The G4 says there is a problem with the FireWire Drive and I should initialise it yet it works fine on the other computers.

Anyone seen anything like this?

I am on OS 10.2.4 and the iPod has the latest updates...

I have been using iPod.iTunes to move tunes between the Cube and the Powerbook.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you have all your files backed up, then why don't you just try initialising it?

I can't think of any real reason why it won't mount. I know iPod's are "locked" to one computer, but when I plug mine into another computer, it just says so and would I like to reset it.

Sorry couldnt be more help.

Tom.

Okay tried that but didn't work!

Brought the iPod up on the PowerBook and restored it to factory settings with the 1.2.1 updater.

Plugged it into the G4 and nothing. Just sits there with the do not disconnect message going.

I think somehow the software in the G4 that recognises the iPod is corrupt. Any idea how I can restore this?

The iPod works fine on the PowerBook.

Anyone????

This happened to me. Restarting my Mac did resolve the issue.

I'm having the same problem on my G4 Cube. Just ran the update to 10.2.4, and now when I plug in my iPod, the system profiler says that no firewire devices are detected. (My iPod is my only firewire device)

Could this be a 10.2.4 problem???

All three of my machines are running 10.2.4.

Can you reapply the updater? Do you get any messages about broken pipes when you try to???

Under System Profiler I can see the device and it is identified as an iPod.

I have iTunes set to not automatically start when connecting the iPod. I set iSync to auto-start, but since the iPod does not mount, iSync does not start. When I try to do a manual sync, I get a message that the iPod cannot be found.

yeah, I can mount the PowerBook in firewire mode and it appears on the desktop okay.

I reckon it is something to do with the mounting framework though. It looks like I will have to reinstall Jaguar to fix this.

Bugger... Again...

Well, it finally mounted. I tried rebooting several times hoping the Cube would detect the iPod but to no avail.

Then I put the Cube in sleep mode and then woke it up again. Guess what? It mounted right away. Next question. Why?
