just thought i'd let you guys in on a lil somethin somethin. there's an actual iPod shuffle icon in tiger vs. the old ugly hard drive icon we were used to getting in panther. thought it was worth the mention.

there already was an ipod shuffle icon in panther 10.3.8. do you have the latest updates in os and ipod updater? and the shuffle icon is replaced by the white hard drive icon when you use it for data also.

Really? I have 10.3.9, don't use my 1GB shuffle for data but still get that ugly disk icon.

I don't see the "new" icon in 10.3.8 and 10.3.9 either.

I got it in .8 and now .9 - I have updated my shuffle to 1.1 with the iPod updater.

Hmm! When I first got my (4th gen 40gb) iPod, it had a custom icon in os x 10.3. Then, I let a friend borrow it, and when he returned it I reformatted it (as he had formatted it for windows). Since then, I've had the generic hard drive icon. Does anyone know what's up?

So it seems you lose the icon if you reformat? Argh.

Mine came with 1.1 firmware and had that icon. I lost my icon too when I enabled disk use. My friend's shuffle was using the 1.0 firmware and lacked the icon. (Strangely we bought the ipods at the same exact time, we just grabbed 2 shuffles from the counter)

Ok. I think I figured it out.

I got the icon back by running the installer from iPodUpdater2005-03-23.dmg which I got from the Apple iPod support website. The updater will inform you that all your data and music will be erased if you update your iPod, and I quit the updater without erasing my data. And 'boom', I saw the new icon.

Heh.

Isn't the icon stored on the iPod itself? (.iconsomething)?
