I haven't heard of anything particularly interesting about this model. I guess I'm curious about the haptic screen.
Mine never bent, so the stronger body doesn't grab me.
I'm sure I'll get one at launch, just for the better speeds and feeds, but it's feeling like it'll be a "meh" upgrade.
(My phone is my main axe, so I'm actively hurting myself when I don't upgrade)

All just part of the annual cycle. I'm not expecting anything revolutionary.

We don't know about taptic screens. Force Touch is a given. As is more RAM.

This. I'm sure they've added better graphics performance to the SOC as well, and kept working on the camera.

The thumbprint sensor on the 5s was a pretty big deal.
Until it stopped working.

Except for a rough spot of a few weeks, mine has just got better and faster over time.
I've never turned it off, and it's so second-nature now. Only annoying thing is that it's sometimes SO fast that when I just want to check notifications on the lock screen by pressing the home button, it's already unlocked.

Mine 5s sensor worked almost perfectly in the beginning. It was like magic.
Then it started to tank. Worser and worser. Became utterly useless. Six months into the product cycle they ironed it out for the most part. Still never as good as it was when fresh.
The one on my 6 I'd say is similar to the 5s in the beginning, and has remained so the whole time. The only problem it has is with moisture, and I sweat like a mofo.
Mofos sweat a lot.
This behavior is predictable enough though I instinctually do a passcode unlock if my thumb is too moist.

You're correct about the lock screen. I've gotten used to going for the teeny-tiny time up top.
This "issue" is my theory as to why Apple has no lock screen bells and whistles.

My two theories about the roll out of the thumbprint sensor.
1) As it tried to refine its internal image of your thumbprint, the added info wasn't managed properly and bogged itself down.
2) The company who developed the sensor is in Israel. Apple is in California. Things hit the fan for me in wintertime in a place where wintertime actually means something.

One thing which annoys me about the thumbprint sensor is when it's moisture failing, and I go to swipe in the passcode screen, the sensor will fill in a number or two.
Like that helps.

Edit: misread. I thought you were swiping the passcode.
I've never had it fill in any digits for me just from swiping.

T minus 6 hours. I'm mildly excited. I'm hoping the bump will help overcome Safari being a dog.
My ex is more excited. She inherited my 5s, and after two years the battery on that is toast. She's looking forward to getting my 6 as a replacement.

I think that iOS 9 content blockers will be a major step forward for Safari performance and battery life - and not only for people who install them, but also because it will push ad networks to optimize their garbage scripts. The other day those clickbait articles at the bottom of so many websites annoyed me to the point that I actually went to the trouble of blocking them (Taboola) in the router. Already that is actually noticeable. I really don't want to block ads, but the last few months it has become crazy annoying at some sites. Not here, thankfully.

SO, as someone new to buying at release, how long is the typical wait between announcement and the phones hitting stores?

Preorders are usually a couple of days after, and the hardware in stores 2-3 weeks after announcement.

I have a 64GB 5S. I most likely will go with the 128GB + (we got a 1st half bonus at work!) I'm still on contract with VZW till 12/24. That will give me time to unbundle from CenturyLink so I can take advantage of the lower "per device" fee. Instead of $40 I will pay $20. The wife has a "feature phone" that is a PIA for her to text with, so she will be getting the 5S

The 5s will be a nice bump.
It's not like the battery isn't replaceable if it goes like on my ex's, she just doesn't want to go through the hassle with an upgrade on the horizon.

I've replaced the battery on the 4s and it still is a lazy beast. Tired also of deleting apps to make room.
6s will be on my christmas list!

With Safari, even the 6 is "problematic".

Interesting... Tim's first thing after saying "good morning" was to draw attention to how many Apple employees ringers there are in the audience.

That's what I'm replacing. 2 1/2 years on this thing and boy the last 6 months has been such a sluggish grind. After I was forced to upgrade to iOS 8 for whatever reason.

2 and 3 actually had the exact same CPU core (Cortex A9), they used A5 and A5X. 4 used Apple's own core for the first time in the A6X, but the clock speed boost over the A5X was comparatively smaller than on the phones.
MS and Adobe demoing apps. Feels like the old bake-offs Jobs used to do on the Powermac.

As predicted, the 10" iPad did not get updated. Huh.
Now the TV. So the phone is One More Thing?
