The more important question is how many thing Apple will meet their ship date? I sure don't.

As soon as Apple can ship them. It's kind of ridiculous to ask a question like this for a new machine. Wasn't it John Carmack of iD or somebody who said it'll ship "when it's ready?" That's your answer.

My order lists "Shipped by" Feb. 24. March 3rd is the estimated arrivel (standard shipping). I placed my pre-order on the 25th with the 7200RPM 100GB option. Hoping "Shipped by" means it can ship before the 24th, but it doesn't seem too likely.

I just hope Apple does not rush them any more than can be normally expected for an exciting new product.
I'm willing to wait a couple more weeks now, if it means I don't have to ship it back two or three times after I get it.

At this point, I would hope that all the design and testing work is complete, and they are just ramping up for production.

Apple is certainly being conservative on their shipping dates for the iMacs. I ordered a BTO a few weeks ago, and Apple shipped it 15 days early,
Hope the MBPs estimates turn out to be 'no later' dates, too.

I would hope that too. You do have to consider the normal speed of production vs. rushed production as it relates to build quality.

Remember the first 17" Powerbook? Announced in January, good luck getting one before late April.

I sure hope they don't come any later than the "estimated" dates, I'm so anxious I'm checking my order status at least once or twice a day.
Anyway, I ordered the stock 1.83GHz model in the afternoon on January 11th with standard shipping.
Estimated ship date: Feb 15th
Estimated delivery date: Feb 23rd
Seems like most people have the same dates if ordered in the US in the first week or so.

hmmmm. minor differences in dates.
I ordered mine 10JAN06 @ 11:15 am PST and Apple says it should ship by 15FEB06 and be dlivered around 21FEB06.
1.83 GHz w/ 100GB 7200rpm CTO HDD to add to my stable of Macs, new and old.

Did you choose the 2-day or whatever it is faster shipping? That would explain the difference in dates.

Yes - I chose 2 day ship. Called the store a few days ago to bump it to next day and they said it was shipping direct from China and couldn't expedite any more...
I want my new toy NOW...

I seem to recall when the first aluminum Powerbooks came out they were available quickly in stores. Unless I prefer to customize I guess the local Apple store would be just as good or better than pre-ordering.
