I know this is a Mac forum but most of the PC forums I've tried stink. Has anyone here installed a HP LaserJet CP1510 as a network printer on a Vista 64 bit box? Getting a Fatal error and contact Network Admin message. Had no trouble putting it on a Win XP Pro machine. Using Vista 64 bit drivers directly from HP site. Their tech support is well.... pretty useless.

Vista 64 is notoriously poorly supported in the area of drivers. Since you say you're using the driver straight from HP, are you sure it supports network access for the printer?

based on the drivers listed in their support site, they do distinguish a USB driver from the 'network' ones so I'm guessing it is SUPPOSED to work.

You could try reinstalling the driver. I'm not up to speed on Vista, but XP was terrible about letting you know if a driver really installed properly or not.

tried many, many times, obtained same Fatal error massage. Have established a case with HP Support I'll see how that goes. My last experience in the spring was terrible.

Stupid question: have you tried using Bonjour from Apple to discover the printer? You don't say exactly what isn't working (connecting to the PC through USB? Accessing from other machines on the network?), but Bonjour might make your life easier.

Printer is on network via Ethernet. Had no trouble getting the printer install on Win XP Pro boxes. The Vista 64 bit unit is gagging on the driver installer. Haven't tried setting it up on a Mac but that is required in this situation. Still waiting for HP Support to call me back.

Bonjour is cross-platform so you can run it from your PC. Download it from apple.com/bonjour and try using the Bonjour Printer Wizard to discover your printer.

if it were my machine I would do that. This is a user I support. I can suggest but I don't think he will go for it. He's very anti Mac.

I can't believe someone would be that "anti-Mac" to use a solution that will probably work very easily and much easier than dealing with HP. That's the whole point of Bonjour. It is cross-platform and I think every printer manufacturer now supports it.

How is the printer on the network? Is it connected directly via an ethernet cable to a home router, or is it connected to a specific computer and shared through that machine?
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.
