Target (AUS) Pulls GTAV from shelves - NeoGAF
"TARGET is under pressure to take popular video game Grand Theft Auto V off its shelves in time for Christmas because it “encourages players to commit sexual violence and kill women”. "
Please, someone explain how it encourages that behavior. And in doing so, how it doesn't also encourage that to occur against males as well.

It doesn't encourage it with you, it encourages it with, I'll use the clinical term: dumb****s.

Similarly, a dumb**** doesn't go see this and say "I rape and kill hooker now", it's not that simple, and FWIW, I'm still kinda pissed off at people who imply it is.

What a dumb**** does is be a dumb****. Dumb****-like behavior includes not bothering to come up with reasoned conclusions on your own, but instead entails following along with the whims of whatever (likely dumb****) peer group you happened to fall into.

To a dumb****, the hookers in GTA reinforce the idea women are shit. There's little (if any) purpose to them beyond being something to shit on, and society doesn't exactly put much pressure on them to disabuse themselves of the notion.

That being said, it should come as no surprise I am 100% against banning it. I very strongly believe in the free marketplace of ideas.

I think this in a nutshell explains the awareness deficit some people have.

The game isn't banned in Australia, a chain of stores decided not to sell it. That's quite literally part of the idea of free market place.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

To be fair, just a few years ago, you couldn't sell games like this in Australia. They're really uptight about video games over there.

It's not just Australia, in the early days German authorities had banned a lot of first person shooters (in case you were shooting other humans). But here, the situation is also different, it's a store deciding not to sell a product which is legal.

The stores logic isn't any better.

Well, it's reminiscent of Intel pulling the ads from certain gaming sites because #gamergate supporters had filed protests with them: it's not some sense of morality on the part of the company, just public pressure. I don't think pulling GTA from the shelves was the right move, the problem is not selling the game. In any case, my initial point was that Target's decision is not counter to the idea of free markets but an expression of free markets.

Hahahahaha

Petition to ban the Bible (due to treatment of women) - NeoGAF
It's a book that encourages readers to murder women for entertainment. The incentive is to commit sexual violence against women, then abuse or kill them to proceed or get 'god' points – and now Target are stocking it and promoting it for your Xmas stocking.

Is it anything other than a generic petition site?
