when i make a new window and click my home directory, the applications folder in the list (desktop, documents, library...) doesn't have any apps in it. it's empty, but they exist. did i loose the path to this folder? everything works when i click the applications folder that is on the left column of the finder window.

it's no major problem, but i would like to fix it. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Do you have an empty Applications folder in your home folder maybe?
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I looks like you are right. I don't remember which app creates this empty folder in the home directory...

You can safely delete this application folder. All your apps are located in the Applications folder at the root of your harddrive (click Macintosh HD->Applications) on the side bar and you should see all your apps.

Just some further info:
Any Applications you put in the main Applications folder at the root of your hard drive (as explained in the previous post) will be available to all users on the computer. You can also create an Applications folder in your Home. Any apps put in there will only be available by that user.
So, if you have kids, for example, you may want to keep business/financial apps installed in your home so they're safe.
