What is the difference? I am alwayss a little skeptical and not wanting to be the first to jump in ever since the whole erase-your-drive incident with iTunes a ways back.
Which Bush is in office right now?

It didn't actually erase anything; there was a fix to bring it all back.

It did erase (rm) everything (on one partition). Unrecoverable.

The OpenGL checkbox now sticks with my ATI Rage 128 (it didn't before), but it doesn't work, does it? I don't notice any difference in speed and/or display.

no problems installing it. Some with (very) large music collections said they notices an improvement in speed (in terms of how long it took for iTunes to get from opening to usable).

On my Pismo, iTunes 3.0.1 fixes the "Use OpenGL" preference bug (where checking that option would appear to work, but upon returning to the visualizer options, it is unchecked).

What I can't tell is if it's actually using OpenGL now, and if so, if it's making any difference or not!

iTunes now use only 7,5%-22% at peaks on my Cube 500. That is a massive optimisation. Older versions used to use up to 40% and over time an average of 25%.

Love this update. (the improvements may have happened with 3.0 though. i never checked cpu use on that version.

Anyone else noticing an improvement?

Nope, not in this update. Steve said something like Jan or Feb (or maybe even March). He gave a timeline, something like 4-6 months.

Start the visualizer in windowed mode (not full screen), the Options button is in the top right corner of the screen.

The open GL actually is fixed. My roommates iMac600 would only pull 16-17 fps before and now that the box stays checked it will do 22-23! That's a really noticable improvement and almost as good as my Rev2 Ti667.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

On a Rage 128 I'm pretty sure it's not working even though the button now sticks. At least that's what OpenGL Profiler says (unlike for example the dxpPlay visualizer).

Less CPU, and Changing Playlists seems ... snappier. (sorry)

Ok I found out what is new in 3.01 and I am so glad they added it!

When you do a search for a song in the field at the top a little clear X apears next to the name just like in the 10.2 finder search. I love it and I have wanted that since iTunes 1.0!

Whoa! I never realized you had to manually enable OpenGL. When I turned it on, I noticed huge improvements.
