http://www.nmr.nl/deins815.htm

On 5 June 1995 an adult male mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) collided with the glass faade of the Natuurmuseum Rotterdam and died. An other drake mallard raped the corpse almost continuously for 75 minutes. Then the author disturbed the scene and secured the dead duck. Dissection showed that the rape-victim indeed was of the male sex. It is concluded that the mallards were engaged in an Attempted Rape Flight that resulted in the first described case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard.
Thoughts?

What the hell were you looking for when you found that?

Funny, but who cares?

I was doing research this summer and one of the professors I was working with told us that a fellow researcher, on a different project, accidentally raised a whole batch of gay ducks. It had to do with the details of how they were raised. She hasn't come out yet with the results because she isn't the type who likes to create controversy.

Also, in my ornithology class I remember reading that most birds don't have the 'tool' required to force procreation like most other animals can. So rape is very uncommon (nonexistent) in the bird world. Some waterfowl, like Mallards, are very much more equiped than most birds...maybe they are an exception...I don't know.

Oh, and :XI:, some people care...I do...fun stuff...yea...

The part that impresses me is the fact that he kept going for 75 minutes!

Seems unneccessary, i don't think it was going anywhere.

Still, there's only one word to describe mallard rape:

old news

Far more disturbing is this duck that always walks around naked, except when he's on the beach and wears a swimsuit.

Ok, someone really needs to start a "zigzag- sorely underappreciated. A tribute!" thread.

We can't stop him. We can only hope to contain him.

It was excellent.

Isn't that researcher nominated the IgNobel Prize for his paper? The Ig ceremony is this week at Harvard; and I think this guy's been invited.

But that's okay. I've got no idea who Rush Limbaugh is.
