It's become a favorite snack of mine lately. Nothing fancy -- just a plain can of tuna. No mayo, or sanwiches. Open the can, grab a fork, and eat. Yum. In water. Oil is ... oily. What are you favorite snacks? The cat likes to snack with me, too. This can be an exciting thread. It really can.

Boil a couple of small new potatoes in their skins.
Boil an egg or two, about 10 minutes. (You can use the same pot you're boiling the potatoes in.) Peel and quarter the egg.
Steam some green beans. (Over the pot in which the potatoes and eggs are boiling. This is easy cooking, my friends.)
Place all of the above on a plate.
Open can of tuna in olive oil, place tuna on top. Make a dressing out of some more olive oil (use the stuff that's left in the can) lemon juice, some gutsy mustard. Salt, some cracked pepper, a sprinkling of sugar. Mix and dress what's on your plate while it is all still warm.
Eat.
Burp.
Delicious.

Thank you, Mr. Cousteau.
Bring on that tuna; I can take it.
Oooh, sounds yummy, Mas. When I can get my hands on the stove, I might give it a go.

Aren't you afraid of Methyl Mercury? Right now it isn't smart to eat shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish. I'm just waiting until the FDA adds Tuna to the list.

Well, tuna's not on the list. And everything else kills ya, so why the hell am I going to worry about tuna now?
I'll get back to ya on the pregnancy thing.

Yea, I'd be wary of eating large quantities of Tuna (which seems you are doing...). Just remember, moderation is key.

The FDA doesn't have public health in its interest. Tuna is a reasonably arge industry, and thus it will not soon show up on any such list, despite the fact that eating it is not only very unhealthy, it is also highly detremental to the environment.

My snack of the month:
Take a handful of snakebeans. If you can't find any at your local Chinese supermarket use green beans instead.
Steam or boil until done but still crunchy. Slice some garlic, a couple of large red chillies. In a wok heat some sesame oil, fry the chillies and garlic for two minutes. Mix with the beans, sprinkle with sea salt, sprinkle with some lime juice.
Enjoy.

While I am at it
Open and rinse a can of chickpeas. Put in a bowl, add olive oil, lemon juice, a crushed clove of garlic and a handful of chopped flat leaf parsley. Some finely chopped mint should you have any. Salt, cracked pepper. Leave to marinade for 30 minutes, eat with fresh bread.

the only thing simple about your snack is 'Take a handful of snakebeans'.
he opens his can, sticks his fork in and eats.
true, he didn't say 'post your simple snack', but to me, a snack is simple.
mine today? Terriyaki beef jerkey (store bought) and a couple of Devil Dogs.
hmm.. I guess this isn't the 'post your deadly snack' thread either.
devil dogs tho, mmmmmm

Hey, I like tuna, too. Straight outta the can.
A nice snack is a bowl of chopped fruit with a lotta whip cream mixed together. It's even easier is you get the pre-chopped fruit and let it thaw for about 30 minutes then load on the whip cream. Mmmm-mmmmmm.

I try not to snack, as I eat enough already. (No, I'm not a fatass - it's just that since becoming a student and drinking more than ever before I've lost my six-pack .)

Ironically, fresh fish doesn't smell like fish - it doesn't smell at all (well, unless you stuck it right under your nose). If it smells fishy, don't eat it.
I love seafood, including tuna. Why is it bad for the environment? What isn't bad for the environment?

Best tuna I ever had was in some sandwiches my best friend's mom made for us while I lived in Europe. My friend and I had been hiking the mountains around Liechtenstein all day, and after that, I could have eaten about 10 of those sandwiches. yum.

Dude. If you're not willing to eat fresh fish, at least experiment with other brands. Trust me.
Oh, and I usually mix a bit of dijon mustard to my canned tuna. And maybe add some sesame seeds. Aww, yeah.
Oh, I know. I just chose the first tuna pic I found. And I love fresh fish, especially flounder. But that ain't a snack. Mmm ... mustard.

Back in high school I worked summers at the local grocery store. Every day around noon, this old guy would come in, buy a bag of shredded cheese and a can of tuna, take it to the deli sitting area and eat it for lunch. Every day. THAT'S tuna appreciation!

Straight tuna is just too boring for my taste buds. I either toss in mayo, lemon juice and chopped peppers, or whip up some white sauce for it.
Favorite simple snack: a stick of pepperoni, a box of Ritz crackers, and beer.

Woa, is that what gay fishermen (not that there's anything wrong with that) look like?
While I do like tuna (seared!), I am ambivalent about eating them as they are coming close to be overhunted.
If you view archival tapes of tunas caught 30 years ago, the tunas are all at least twice the size of the current tunas caught. As the appetite of tunas increase, we are going for younger and younger fishes as mature specimens no longer exist. The problem is obvious but it is not well known enough to warrant attention outside of conservationists.
Some of you may think that is not a problem. But just think, maybe dodo is the best tasting poultry ever but we will never know.

Celery + peanut butter, nice and healthy snack.
Hm I recently tried bagel/lox (bagel + cream cheese + raw salmon) the other day, was surprised, pretty good... then again I'm a big sushi fan. Could make an interesting snack.

Always thought lox was cold-smoked salmon, rather than raw, not that there's anything wrong with raw of course.

Mmmmm... Fresh humus. Try adding a little tahini to that recipe, about 1-2 TBSP. I also make a killer babbaganush. Try it with some Everything Matzas. Tassssty.
As far as sweets go, I've been eating quite a bit of Halva lately, great stuff (especially the kind with walnuts in it)! I like it best on graham crackers. It's good on saltines too... makes for a nice sweet and salty contrast.

Mmmmm....good call, gravlax is superb. I believe Denmark, Norway, and Sweden all seem to claim it as their own. The mustard / dill sauce is great too.
