They didn't show any hair on ass of the one in the left.
Not a true representation of Europe.

That actually elicited a laugh from me.
But seriously, she represents just one of millions and millions of copies in that continent.

Yeah, I read that yesterday and think it's shocking. However, the time has yet to come where I see as many fat (sorry, big-boned) people in Germany as I do in the US. That Spiegel story sounds a bit like a lurid tale to me, sure people have gotten bigger over the last 50 years but it's not THAT bad yet.
What really pisses me off is that some suggest the schools should take care of that and teach the kids what and what not to eat. That's just ridiculous, what else should the schools do? The main problem is that parents don't give a damn, and unlike most people, I'd care about the health of my kids. But nooooo, let school take care of that, as long as they're not responsible, all's fine!

Either we teach this in schools or we burden our health care system with diseases caused by overweight. Watch this:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl...ows/diet/view/
Even children are getting diabetes from overweight these days! I guess teaching how to eat healthy is cheaper in the long run.

Europe is cathcing up-very fast.
Have a look at the statistics of the last 10 years.
That`s one of the reasons why every country is cutting back on health care-expenses are going to skyrocket within the next 10-15 years.
TIME magazine ran an article a while ago about children with adult onset diabetes.
They had a picture of a girl-weighing 100 kilograms at age 11! And that`s after she lost about 20 kilograms!

So here I am, living in a tourist trap, in the second fattest city in the United States, and I end up eating Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine so that I don't look like the woman on the right.
That and the fact that I don't own a thong, let alone have had a sex change operation.

The basic principle of wieght watching is dead simple and 100% correct. If you eat energy than you use then you gain weight. If you eat less than you spend then you lose weight.
There is one thing we overlook though - it takes time. The body is an incredible conservative homeostasis machine. It does not want to make changes fast and for good reason. Too fast change in the balance of weight and energy consumption can be disasterous. Nevertheless the body can't to anything about it if you consume less energy than you spend. It will lose weight. Period.
So those of you who are changing your eating habits from bad to healthy: keep it up! You'll make it eventually. We're talking six months to a year but time will pass. Might as well put it to good use.

I though Kansas City was the second fattest. I only thought this because I just moved here from the #1 fattest -- Philadelphia.

Chicago is #2. Philadelphia came in fourth. Kansas City didn't even make the top ten.
So what's the fattest city in the world? Toronto?

Haha. Being in Paris is great, yes. And not just from my POV as an american. Back in september when I first got here, I met a guy from Amsterdam. Actually, it was at Apple Expo, during the Steve Keynote. He told me "In another life, I too will come to live in Paris as a single 20 year old..."

Proof that rising ocean levels are not caused by global warming. It's simply displacement.

Beautiful women's arses (or asses, for the US): one sweet, delicious and delicate, the other more coarse, fat and vulgar - both quite attractive, IMHO...

There is a very "healthy" eater at my Gym that looks just like that "American" woman and wears a thong under her sweats. It's just wrong... Just plain wrong. I've been on a machine behind her where I've had to move just because I couldn't handle the visual of that thong popping out of there... am I a bigot? Maybe, but why do I need to know what kind of underwear everyone wears... of course is she was hot I wouldn't mind

As an European who has lived in the States for 7 years, I must say that there are not that many differences considering how wide the Atlantic is. I know that many European center-left oriented citizens would argue a lot. Just my opinion (live in Madison, WI but travel quite a lot).
As for the overweight problem in the US. It is true, I was shocked of how fat people may look around here. However, the statistics in Europe (more specifically Spain where I come from) seem to follow US patterns. The child obesity is a real problem in Europe right now, very close to US levels. This is due to modern way of life (fast food, etc), even the mediterranean diet is not that encouraged by parents in Spain anymore. Kits want over stuffed pizza and McDonalds. Vegetables, fish, and lots of variety are not a priority anymore, very sad such a rich food. I miss it a lot (thanks good I'm quite a good and dedicated cooker).
