As for being lured by Fake News sites, I guess I'm no worse than CNN and The Daily Beast (at least I'm not a "real" journalist).

I have no idea what the link at Boxden is supposed to show, because I can't see anything there without an account. You're gonna have to do better.

The article doesn't contradict itself. It merely contradicts YOU.

A whole bunch of people funded those organisations, including the US government, if they did any sort of tax write-off. Naturally, it stands to reason that if you're funding something, you're implicitly supporting their platform, agenda, and methodology. It does NOT mean that you're dictating their actions — that's a completely different subject. The article you posted CLEARLY distinguishes between the two.

If I support Greenpeace or Sea Shepherd, it's because I approve of their actions, not because I intend to influence them.

As I wrote: I still fail to see the relevance if he did try to influence them. Who ****ing cares?

I mean, seriously: you had one-point-eight MILLION people on the streets. You have major branches of government in open defiance. You have presidential executive orders so poorly thought-out that they are immediately stayed by comparatively low-level courts.

And the problem is somehow some billionaire with an agenda paying for bussing?

Congratulate her, it's still far beyond your own. I'm glad there's at least one rational person in your household, no matter her age.

Yet they both claim to be Christians. One of them has a well documented history of regular church attendance, and the other one has had ties to a prominent 'prosperity gospel' preacher for years- even before he ran.

What makes you say this?

With Trump it's his behavior flat-out not matching the claim.

With Obama, that's just the vibe I've gotten over 8 years. It's politically expedient for him to be Christian, and it keeps things cool with the wife, who does strike me as authentically religious.

At best, Obama has a very abstract take religion, not a throw down from Timothy with a straight face one.

I agree with you about Trump, but I also believe HE believes he's a Christian. As for Obama, like I said, he was a church goer long before he got involved in politics. Maybe he lost his faith and is faking it, but there's no real evidence to support that other than the 'vibe,' which I would agree exists.

But beyond that, do you genuinely see no notable difference in their actions/words/demeanour at the Prayer breakfast? Or do you think the tradition is pointless so it doesn't matter?

Even though I went for the quick hit with calling them both atheists, I agree Trump thinks he's Christian, but as evidenced by his speech, it's an, umm... unique take, which appears to be founded the importance of self.

Whether we just want to consider it "merely" an utter embarrassment, or as a "lighter" manifestation of a far darker problem, one of the things I can't fault it for is lacking honesty.

Which, since Obama comes off as fake in this example, the comparison rings more hollow than it should, if we want to compare the greatest orator in three generations to a lump of shit.

I would argue there MAY be a distinction here between being fake and honouring the tradition while respecting the audience. I would say, regardless of motive, Obama did both, Trump did neither. Being a good president is about far more than the politics. Being good at the figurehead part has value that should not be dismissed.

I agree, but I don't see making that point as the intention behind the comparison, and certainly not the intent with which it was posted.

It's trying to trip off a cognitive dissonance argument, which is a little hazier than which one has some actual class (and the importance of that in a figurehead).

The big issue with getting rid of the Johnson Amendment, in my opinion, is that it opens yet another channel for unchecked and unaccountable money to flow into politics- and all of it subsidised by the tax-payers. If he follows through, and the courts let him, I don't see turning churches into super-pacs being in anyone's interest. Where the big money flows, corruption will surely follow.

Ok. I didn't read the second two all the way through, but in skimming, I didn't see anything about Obama lying. And I'm afraid the first is a bit wet. Maybe Obama lied to his face, maybe they had differing views. Not really cut and dried, is it? Cardinal Dolan felt mislead, but there is no proof shown here that it was intentional- could have been a misunderstanding.

Unless you have any other sources, I think it's fair to say you mischaracterised things a bit.

Brady has apparently played golf with Donald, and the Trump campaign gleefully outed he and Belicheck as "friends" in an effort to get NE votes. This got the Pats some negative press. Dunno how true, or if that pic is photoshopped, or if it matters... I didn't even watch the game but it was apparently a nailbiter! A lot of NE is conflicted right now!

Yet he drew the line at actually campaigning and seemed embarrassed/unwilling to be dragged into politics. Maybe Belicheck more so than Brady. Ah well.
