Wow. I can remember other times when the Apple store would be closed for updating, but I can't remember the main page simply being unavailable. They must be doing a significant update to either the site or the servers. I'm guessing that everything is no going according to plan, however, if their main site is unreachable.

Well as of 11:50 (which I think is 9:50 your time), they are up and humming. I can go to apple's page and mount my idisk.

Well, I'm in northern CA too - and it's not working for me. No access to www.apple.com, and software update just keeps checking, and checking, and checking...
iDisk, on the other hand, mounted fine.

I can't ping them either and traceroute only gets as far as alter.net. Perhaps this is a coincidence that there is a major outage and its May 1st?

Hmm, maybe it is a router problem somewhere along the way. Make sure you guys clear your browser caches and aren't using proxies so that you're not loading a locally cached copy.

Nothing's different so far.
It all works fine from my LAN connection at North Carolina State University.
The server made a boo boo. (403)

You can't cache iDisk, so either sme routers are down, some of apple's servers are down, or a lot of people are being wishful thinkers.

Same as when the 10.0.1 update came out. I waited and waited, to no avail. I had to wait a couple of days to get back in.

Its possible that only some of Apple's hardware is non-functional right now , but I don't think that iDisk is a good measure of this. I seem to recall that Apple partnered with a storage company prior to announcing iDisk, thus it seems likely to me that the connection to iDisk is actually maintained by a third party.

True, about iDisk. But I can still access random parts of Apple's site that haven't been cached, so I still think it's a router issue. Hey, I had a thought, how many people are in OSX who are having problems? I'm in my school's computer lab, which is on OS9.1... so maybe it's something with OSX? (thinking no, but's it's a thought).

Well, it's 2231 Monday and www.apple.com is definitely incommunicado.

I suspect that some of you are looking at your own session caches.

Well, I'm in Norther CA too, and I can't connect as of 10:35 PM PST (IE gives me the standard "The page cannot be displayed" error).

I'm not on my Mac right now, so I can't ping.

10:35 P.S.T. and still no Apple.com. What time tomorrow is the press event anyway? They are probably prepping the servers for tomorrow's anticipated high volume traffic.

Many will find that ping works and tracerout fails. Looks like a router is down. Some say this means an update. I don't know.

Stockton CA, apple still works and I went to checkout some hot news that I had not read yet so I know it was not chased.

Whatever is going to happen, we won't find out until *after* the press event, and not a moment before. Apple likes to officially announce things before they go up on the web (except admittedly the 10.0.1 update, which they kept low-key to avoid bad repercussions with the press, a plan that worked very well). I wouldn't expect anything having to do with the operating system itself out tomorrow, just app updates. Tuesday is a day that gets too many web site hits for them to do something with the OS now. But I've been wrong before.

I can view the Apple hompepage -- I don't know if this is new since I don't really hit it on a daily basis but it looks like it's all osX now. The homepage cycles through about 3 different main graphics. I wonder if Apple is getting ready for the big media push for osX...
