Hello,

I just installed OS 8.6 and my trackpad doesn't click. I can move the cursor, and my mouse, connected to the powerbook by a cable, will click OK, but with the external mouse connected or not, the trackpad that's built into the powerbook doesn't click. I went into the trackpad control panel and made sure it was checked. Any advice please?

thanks, cc

Do you actually feel it clicking? I got a 5300c3 from my aunt a couple years ago that she hadn't used because she thought it was broken. The only thing broken about it was the actual plastic trackpad button. I found that out by taking it apart and saw that the piece that sticks out from the underside of the trackpad button was broken off, probably from abuse or overuse. I bought a new one off ebay for like $3. I also spent some money to fix it up (new battery, modem dongle, etc) and now never use it. I think I've thought of something though (mp3 car. . . )

So anyway, take it apart and look underneath the clicker to see whats up. It can't hurt. But you'll need a torx screwdriver.

Yea man the same **** happened to my 3400c in like 7th grade. I ended up breakin her open and gluing a penny inside lol. Ghetto, but I got my clicker back! Infact it worked so well the next year when I sold it to buy a PB G3 (I got shafted there, half a year after I spend almost $4000 on a pimped out 3400 the new, faster, much cheaper G3s come out, doh) I forgot I put the penny in there and forgot to tell the buyer! Sorry dude! If anyone out there bought a 3400c from ebay and found a penny inside, umm, ill email you a hundred dollar bill to make up for it.

You might try clicking the tap on trackpad option if nothing else works. I always found that annoying with my 3400c. Wish I had not sold mine, but I should have a nice G4 soon! :-)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Prying a penny almost all the way under the trackpad (couldn't push it too far in without breaking it) actually worked and somehow got it going again, although its very sluggish.

Great advice, cc
