Lets keep up the conversation about my race with DocWest and ScottTheKing's race with GetSome 681. The most recent update of the stats page says that Scott is beating GetSome by over 70,000 units, with a total of 497K. I too am winning with 164K, more than 30,000 higher than DocWest.

Lets all keep up the talk. Tell us about new CPU's added to the farm, and about any failures or downtime. Lets make this interesting!

Ok, here's the news with me.
I've lost 3 of my Tbirds, two of them are now crunching for someone else (I'm yelling, but he's 150 miles away), and one is crashed.
I'm hoping to add a "few" more comps tomorrow.

We are working on a races page for the website, but it isn't done yet.

I've been so bogged down with school lately, that I haven't had time to get the G4s I have running the client as they were...hopefully things too will change for me, I don't want to give up this easily!! I won't either... Scott may have something up his sleeves...but who says I don't as well?

Heh, opposite problem for me. I have been on holidays, so I've using my comp too much.
I'm back at uni now, so i should start getting a little more done.
Dont think i have the power to keep up with SBS though.

If by tortoise and the hare you mean that I am fast and you are slow, then you are correct. But if you mean that you will catch up in the end due to my carelessness, then you are greatly mistaken.

Well, my dual 800 is cranking at around 14 Mkeys/sec and usually does about 6000 blocks per day. Not too shabby, eh?
Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

I would imagine a Pentium 4 2GHz would do about 2.8MK/s. It is so much slower due to it's lack of an integer rotate function: explained here: http://n0cgi.distributed.net/faq/cache/55.html

An Athlon 1.5Ghz would do about 5.2MK/s. We are yet to see how fast an Athlon XP 1800+ would be: it runs at 1.53GHz.

I found all those specs at http://n0cgi.distributed.net/speed/ it is a huge listing of processors and their speeds. And don't believe everything you read their, quite a few of those speeds are lies from windoze people who are jealous of the G4's speed.

Is there something wrong DocWest? You've only turned in 8K blocks in the past 2 weeks. If you want to win the race then you need to be as fast as I am: 30.7K in the last 2 weeks!

I am crunching at the same rate as i've always been. And about the same rate as you were before we were racing.
You were just waiting for some unsuspecting fool to take up your offer of a race. And then you go to full power. Alas, that fool was me. :o

Heh. I'm not accusing you of not putting your all into the team. It's just you got that 867 right when we started racing.

I'ma keep on crunching though.

It was just coincedence that our friendly competition as turned into and official race about the time my new G4 came. I wasn't looking for a sucker. BTW my old rate would have been 14K in 2 weeks; so was yours.

Lets try to keep the race intersting for all the viewers out their.

My RC5 performance might be dropping for a while. I'm going to check out how well SETI runs on my new 867. I'm going to try the OS9, OSX, and Darwin versions until I find the fastest or the easiest. I think I already know what version will win those titles, but i'm going to see for myself. DocWest this could be your big chance.

Well I found that the SETI OS9 client runs at about 8.5 hours per work unit. Now I'm moving onto the OS X versions, which will mean that I need to run OS X constantly. I still use OS9 primarily, I just am more familiar with it. But now I'm giving OS X a good chance. I hope there is a significant proovement in SETI GUI performance,

Hahaha! Dont worry mate, you'll pass me in a few days.
I just wanted to be #1 for a day. It was about 2 weeks of units saved up!

Now that I've had my fun, everyone can resume outcrunching me

Bad news DocWest. I'm done with SETI on my G4. I found that

1. The CLI is the fastest.
2. The OS9 version is the easiest to use.
3. The OS X GUI is annoring since it launches every 5 minutes, not just after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Now, I running the RC5 CLI, which happens to be about 5% faster then the OS9 version. I plan to win the race with RC5 first, and then maybe I'll crunch both SETI and RC5 at the same time, and see which one happens to get more priority or niceness. See you at the finish line my friend.

Looks like I might be adding a dual 800 to my force...

Now only if I can get all the other computers in my force back up and running...it seems they've all stopped..and my numbers sure show that...

but can we say dual 800
