On every macbook pro I have ever seen including mine, all the ones in the office, and all the ones at the Apple Store when you have the battery indicate show the time it always says "Calculating..." and never changes. Mine says calculating all day.... never once does it show the time, even when I unplug it. The only time i get it to show the times is when i switch between percentage, and time a bunch of times, or hide/show the battery menu.

What gives? Geeze is there any reason Apple can't fix something relatively simple? My PC laptops always tell me exact times or "charged" but never "trying to figure... it ....out....pplease..... freak...iing... standby...."

Mine seems to be displaying "time remaining" just fine.

This is covered in the MBP manual, I believe.

Basically, you need to run on battery until the MBP goes to sleep when the battery is almost completely drained. Then plug it in, and the battery will recharge. Thereafter, the time display should work fine. This needs to be done every few months to keep the calibration working properly.

You also might need to reset PMU (called something else now, I think), but start with the above.

No, in the MBP the PMU is still the PMU. How to reset it is detailed in this Apple note:

It's the new iMac and Mac mini where the thing changed its name. It's now called the SMC for System Management Controller. There's an Apple note on it here:

Apple's calibration instructions in the macbook pro manual are either poorly written or they just seem like a crazy huge ordeal to have it stop say "calculating..." lol
