Ever since getting my C2D MB, I've been wanting to use my old Core Solo Mini for something. With the AppleTV announcement, I decided I'd make a better media center machine. I've got a Miglia TVMicro on the way, and obviously have Front Row. I have a 250 gig USB2 drive for the media, and a nice big display to put all this on. What I want to know is, what other apps can be used to enhance the OS X Media Experience?

Centerstage wont even launch, but I guess thats the risk of alpha software. MediaCentral looks like a killer app, with the games, youtube/google video, and even EyeTV support.

You should also check the 123macmini.com forums. They have lots of good info there on using the Mini as an HTPC.

From my experience, MediaCentral is a great great idea that caters to all, but has some bugs that need to be worked out. I don't know how much memory you have, but there's a lot of lag for me to launch certain programs. Also, I feel the frontrow remote is severly limited to use all the programs efficiently. just my 2cts.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I ran it MediaCentral on y MB before I made that post, but now that I've actually put it on my Mini, its dog slow. That and the interface is actually a bit on the small side from the distance (~10 feet) I need to cover. I may just stick with FrontRow/EyeTV until I can invest some funds into upgrading or replacing the Mini.

This thread is a bit dated - but nevertheless.
Anybody, who's experiencing limitations of their Apple Remote and hasn't heard of the Remote Buddy before, check this out: Remote Buddy > Overview // IOSPIRIT - fueling creative minds worldwide ..

Works like a charme and is very reasonably priced. I'm using this with my Mac Mini Home Theater setup and am very please with it.

Best.
