I'm trying to delete the custom genres that get added to my iTunes Music Library when I import new songs. I've gone through the library and changed all of the tags to the genres that I want to use, but the old names are still left in the drop down panel. How do I delete those genres from the drop down panel when I choose Get Info on a music file?

That works for me. Are you sure you didn't miss one? Did you click the genre column and type in the genre you want to be rid of in the search field and make sure you didn't miss one?

EDIT: That doesn't seem to work anymore???

Nope, that doesn't work. The old genres are still there.
