OS X - XP Networking

I'm such a longtime Mac user that I stupidly expect things to just work. I hear it is easy to network OS X and XP, but have been too ditsy to figure this out. I think if someone could give a little primer it would help lots of folks.
Here's my setup- 5 Macs, 2 on OS 9.22, 3 on OS X, 3 Windows boxes on XP all connected via an ethernet router (they share printers and a DSL connection).
I want to be able to easily move files between the OS X boxes and the XP boxes. Ideally I could click on an icon on either side to mount the other machine and have access to files. As I am very slow I need step by step instructions on the windows side.
Help!

There are several solutions depending on how you want to look at it..
Dave/Sharity - These applications/daemons help broadcast out shares setup on the Mac to be accesible on a Windows LAN. i.e. You can access Mac shares from the PC and vice versa. You can access shares from the Mac (X or 9) from the Connect To Server/Chooser Feature. Documentation on DAVE should help you out.
PC MacLAN - This application makes Appletalk available on the PC, thus you access the PC shares through Appletalk as per normal on OS 9/X.
X has a built in feature called SMB, which has a unix implementation of Netbios, SMB protocol for windows networks. Unfortunately, in order to access PC shares from the Mac, you'd have to remember the /workgroup/sharename or maybe the ip of the machine itself (no browsing capabilities). Dave has these browsing functions so its more easier to use.
Unfortunately too upon accessing the shares from SMB, Mac OS X tends to leave clutter. e.g dotfiles, Temporary items folders etc.

Why is this still so damn complicated? Surely some sort of standard should have been figured out by now?!

Get Sharity. You can find it on www.versiontracker.com. I use it all the time and it's given me less headaches than Dave.

Thanks for the info.
I installed Sharity and it indeed easy to setup/understand.
3 new questions:
a) Under 10.2 will we be able to browse Windows networks right from the finder without typing in workgroup names?
b) Why after transferring word files to a windows xp machine is the XPdirectory littered with weird files that start with periods (as well as the actual files)? (would this happen if I bought DAVE?)
c) Why are some of those odd files undeletable under XP (they are listed as having a zero k length and xp says it can't find them when I try to delete)

b) those dot.files are an annoying, unavoidable OSX thing
c) XP is a flaming pig turd that can't delete zero-files
