So a loser pic is worse than telling Americans they are going to be raped in the A** because a person they dont like was elected? that makes a lot of sense.

So you don't place value in the concept of unity, or you don't place value in Obama holding true to his promise?

Healthy cynicism is a good thing, but rendering a verdict of guilty before he is even given the opportunity is unfair.

I feel so sorry for our American friends.

He is totally incompetent.

His speech was lame.

You will stay in Iraq for the next 4 years; remember he said he was bringing the troops home within 90 days, now it is 16 months, next will be sorry but in my second mandate.

What made him win African Americains and white men guilt.

He has no programs that make sense; and no money to do them.

Health care will remain the same. And you will be in a deep economic depression within the first year unless Hillary tells him what to do.

Don't worry. When Obama turns his back completely on his Radical friends they will come after him

Maybe Messiaboma is already changing the world?!?!?!

Sanity returns to the USA. Congrats America. We won't need to build a fence along the US-Canada border to keep the crazies out.

The world is full of good will towards America. The last time that happened, Bush used it to attack Iraq. This time use it for the cause of good.

Two "smug" comments from a Canadian: Take a look at Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada to see how a successful conservative party functions. And send a delegation to the office of Elections Canada to learn how to run an election.

You sure he won't use the goodwill to pull out of Iraq and attack Pakistan?

1) Conservative minority govt, that not surprisingly lasted less than a full term.
2) $300 million spent on a new election that didn't change anything. It's still a minority conservative govt.

The problem is that Obama got 600 million so he owes a lot to a lot of people; that is politics as usual.

Also, he said that he was bring the troops home at first within 3 months then within 16 months and now they are going from Iraq to Afghanistan. Lie, lie...

The only smart thing until now, is that he brought in Rubin who is very smart so the recession or depression mght not be as severe.

So, if black or African Amercian people are the same then the rest of us; they have to be upheld to the same level than the rest of us. I do not see any difference between black and white people, Bush was a poor President and Obama will prove to be one.

Obama is bringing in two members of the Kennedy family to create what he calls the "government of the stars". Laugh.

Obama also got most of the women vote, so you can now direct your rants at that demographic.

I agree this is very drôle. What would make those Kennedy stars except they are descendents of Robert and Ted Kennedy.

Wouldn't he want some people that actually have some qualifications since he does not have any.

News flash: as long as the BQ remains, minority parliaments will be the norm. (The only reason Chretien managed 2 majorities is because the conservative side was in utter disarray.) And that's my point: Harper put the Conservatives back on track when Manning and Day couldn't, because only Harper realized that fiscal conservatism wins elections, not social conservatism. Once the Republican party figures that out, they'll be on top too.

And that $300M figure is pointless bitching. It needed to be spend, if not this year then next year. Besides, giving the Liberals their worst election results in Canadian history is "changing something." The Libs will now go through the necessary introspection to make them a worthy option.

I think we should create a joint PaperNotes, Monique, and Big Mac thread where we just let them rant and let out their frustrations. Not only would it make them feel better, but if we didn't interrupt them I bet we'd hear some fairly amusing assertions.

Congratulations Obama, and a great speech by McCain. Unfortunately, his supporters completely ruined it by booing and refusing to accept what had happened.

...but he's right. Barring a total and utter collapse of one of the major parties (which was what happened to the Conservatives in the 90s), as long as the BQ remains a significant force in Quebec the likelihood of minority gov't seems to be here to stay. Simply put, a majority gov't pretty much requires that you get a good number of seats in Quebec, since the likelihood of winning everywhere else is pretty slim.

You'd think that they would eventually get tired of being underrepresented in the ruling party and make a change, but since minority gov'ts have to do so much coalition-building and make concessions, I'm not sure that they're terribly less off in this situation.
