Hello,

some people started an online petition for the slow combo drive problem of the ibook. Please go to: http://www.petitiononline.com/combo4x/

and sign the petition. Maybe we can put a little bit more pressure on Apple to solve the problem, if we can get enough people to sign it.

Greetings...

That's ridiculous. Someone needs to start a petition to stop these kinds of petitions.

Ah,

please post it in any other mac forum you know, I forgot to say that. And I don't think it's ridiculous, because I bought my iBook 800 with a 16x CD burner. Now it is only burning 4x, and it doesn't matter which media I use. It seems that Apple don't care about it, so it is a normal step to put some more pressure on them to solve the problem. It was the same for the noisy Powermac power supply.

Greetings...

Hold down your ibook to minimize vibrations while you insert you blank cd. I had the same problem as everyone but using this technique I can burn at 16X even using cheap noname blanks.

Hm, I tried to hold down my iBook, but was no improvement here. Someone mentioned, that it is a firmware bug.
I don't know exactly...

I remember a post here in which a fellow solved his iBook slow burning problem by running the hardware test. Maybe you should give that a shot.

Have fun... Tony.

It's possible that this isn't Apple's fault at all. Most of the drives reported doing this are the Sony CRX-820E's. It could be something with the drive model itself since most burners detect what speed they can reliably write at on the current media in the drive. Has anyone seen a PC laptop with the same drive and the same problem? This might give us a better idea of who to blame...
