How can i make a quicktime movie that has only 1 frame saying 'click to play' and it load the rest when it's clicked?

just like this?

you need to create a poster movie and have it link to you real one .. more details at;

I've done this (plus a little qt 6 detection to make sure users have mpeg4) on my own site:

check out the feature and blooper real for examples ..

What happens if the person coming to my site does not have QT at all? What will show up in the web broswer, broken plug-in images?

Pretty much. You can write some javascript to detect quicktime at all and/or write some quicktime refferences to detect what version of QuickTime they have.
