I am getting Leopard Wednesday or sooner and will be doing a clean install. My question: should I even bother re-installing Photoshop Elements 4.0? Has anyone had the "unfixable issues" that Adobe said they would? Will it screw up my system, or just the Photoshop itself if it does have problems?

Not true. Works fine for me in Leopard. (Although in Rosetta so not as fast as it could be.)

Wonder why some PE installs are fine, and others are completely broken?

are you POSITIVE about the Intel + Leopard? Because if that's the case, I'm not trying it.

EDIT: that can't be. Above someone said it works fine for them albeit through rosetta, which means they are on intel.

Yep, again, works fine for me on Intel + Leopard.

Although I still can't wait for Elements to become universal (poor Adobe coders are probably going Cocoa-loco right now!).

I'm using PE4 on Intel with Leopard. No problems noted! Just did a bunch of work with it over the weekend.

Installed PE 4, no problems yet, except encountering a "program error" when applying a certain font. I don't think that's Leopard's fault, though.

I have just tried to install Elements 4.0 on both my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro, both have Leopard.

On the Mac Pro the installer wouldn't go past the first window, the "continue" button remained grey.

On the MacBook Pro, the installer started OK but failed with a message about failing the preflight check.

Both machines already have CS2 and CS3 on them, and I wonder if this the reason.

OTOH, I have been able to install it on a Mac Pro Tiger partition which also has CS2 and CS3 on it.

Any ideas very welcome

Thanks

Mike

PS In case you're wondering why I want Elements at all when I already have CS2 and CS3, it is because I am going to be giving my neice some lessons and she has Elements 4 (on Tiger). I need to see what she sees.

Interestingly, PE 4.0 was on the Apple Store *Black Friday* sales event's list for the second time in a roll.

Solved my problem!

Got a suggestion on the Adobe forum to create a new admin user and install while logged in from the new user. Then log back to regular user, (which then worked fine for the updates).

Well, I guess this appears to vary with individuals. I did NOT do a clean install. My Photoshop 4.0 had lost all but four of its functions. I talked to the Adobe people and they blamed Apple for the problem. I kept uninstalling/reinstalling and kept coming up with the same results. Very disappointing and the program is not very useful in this state. If you do a clean install, I hope you have better luck.

PE4 installed on my Macbook (OS Leopard). Unfortunalely, I cannot start PE4. Also tried to install it on a new user (as mentioned above) but no succes.
I have removed some languages with monolingual (Monolingual). Can that be the problem...so do I have to reinstall Leopard?

I dunno, it seems that the kinds of errors you will encounter are completely variable and random.

Question: Does Photoshop Elements employ Activation DRM? I'm waiting for the new version to come out, but I won't support Activation, or any other kind of invasive DRM.

Problem solved. I have reinstalled Leopard and PE 4. I do not have any problems anymore. Apparently, I have removed some important file with Monolingual.

I've been struggling with PE on my Intel/Leopard iMac, too. While waiting for Adobe to come to the rescue, I've been learning how to use the GNU Image Maniplualtion Program (GIMP). I'm starting to not care about PE so much anymore...

I gave up and went Photoshop CS3. I was at least eligible for upgrade pricing as I had an old copy of Photoshop 7 for Windows.

Supposedly Elements 6 ships in late March 208 (per Adobe's website). Sucks, bc right now on Amazon there is a $20 rebate on 6 for XP/Vista. It would also be great if it was cross-platform bc tons of printers and new computer setups (PC) now seem to be bundled with Elements for free...I've had so many people offer a free copy to me when I say I need it, but I can't use it. grr.

I guess I could look for a semi-equal replacement too, but still annoying.

I am using Leopard and PE 4.0.

I cannot layer.

When I click and drag one file onto another from the file bin, it just bounces back. I've tried copying and pasting and other clicks and drags, and I cannot find anyone else who has this problem...

I am waiting impatiently for PE 6.0.

But does anyone else know of this issues and/or how to fix it?

PE 6 sucks.... let me just say that now. It's ugly, and I don't see many speed boosts. Granted, it's only a beta, but there's a lot of work to do.

FYI, I just installed Leopard and discovered that my copy of Elements 3.0 works just fine.

I thought it wasn't available until end of March?
I have a G5, PPC processor, and when I installed Leopard it broke Elements entirely. It won't even open. So is it true that PE 4 only works with the Intel processor? If not, how can I get it to work? The link to System Requirements on the Adobe Photoshop upgrade page does not work. I am afraid to preorder if I can't know for sure it will work.
I did download GIMP but also had to download the UNIX (?) environment to run it on. It's a bit clunky and I could not get the Smudge tool to work.
I depend on PE more than I thought... sigh.
Any ideas?

PE 4 is PowerPC only. It will run on both Intel and PowerPC (which is your G5) but it is better on PowerPC. It is incompatible with Leopard though.

I have a review copy. Read the review part one here: Photoshop Elements 6 First Look: The Interface - Appletell
Part 2 coming soon.
