Hey,

I'm still wondering whether I should get a MB or a MBP...

Will I be able to notice the speed difference in the processor and GPU?

Is there a percentage comparing the MB with the MBP:
- Comparing graphics between the two
- Comparing overall performance between the two?

For web and email and light to medium Office use. No.
For pro apps. Sure.
For 3D games: Sure.

Percentages depend on the specific app/game you're using.

As Simon provided the MW link you'll see that over all system performance between the 2.4GHz MB and MBP is negligible. Performance between the 2.4GHz MB and the 2.8MBP will be wider but depending your needs that increase in horsepower may not be cost justified.

I love the size/form factor of the MB but because I'm using Aperture which does use the GPU to a great extend spending more makes sense in my case but for general use the MB is a great computer - unless you prefer the larger size.

If I recall you're a student so the smaller size of the MB is a benefit as you'll want to use that in school, you'll have room on your desk for the computer and other things. The MBP would take over your desk in school

I am in the same boat.
I am trying to justify a MBP.
I have no true need for the pro because i have a top of the line iMac at home.
the major differences to me is screensize, screen quality, videocard, and hdd speed.
justifying the money is tough on this one because i really wanted a 17

Have you tried them out? If not, go poke around with a new MacBook. It's a very nice computer.

I do not mind the size, after all the Macbook Pro is less than 4cm wider.

The problem is that if I am going to get a Macbook Pro it has to be the highest end one, 2.8Ghz, and preferably a 320gb hard drive.

But that costs a heck of a lot of money, is it really that much better than a 2.4Ghz macbook with worse graphics....

Got any more pennies for me Maflynn?

Why can't you get the more reasonably priced model? If you really need all that, why are you even considering a MacBook?

I'm considering a Macbook because I do not need any better than it.
But I prefer the extra speed if I can get it.

I am going to use the laptop for many years to come, and I would rather take the best one so it will last longer.

And I am not going to waste money on a Macbook Pro if I get 2.53Ghz because thats not much higher than the Macbook, so if I am going to pay more then I would rather pay more for something that is significantly better.

Depending on what you plan to do with it, the performance increase of the 2.53 GHz MBP over a 2.4 GHz MB will not come form the slight increase in CPU clock, but rather from the 9600M GT. And that could be dramatic in certain applications.

oh yeah... but I don't do too much aperture or final cut studio or whatever.

But I might in the future... so I think Macbook Pro is the best choice for me...

Here are a few benchmarks comparing the same 2.8 GHz MBP w/ and w/o 9600M GT.

The difference ranges from +126%


to +286%.


If you consider how the 9600M GT compares to the previously used 8600M GT and you see how the 9400M does, you realize what a boost the 9400M is in terms of MacBook graphics.
