hi. I have a g4 450 (agp), and i'm about to upgrade osx to 10.1. I have never updated the firmware of the mac, and after the horror stories of lost ram, firewire, sound, and crashes...I don't really want to "upgrade".

Will 10.1 work on my machine, or will it just crash on boot?

10.1 will not install without the latest firmware.

The only "horror stories" you might need to worry about are the tightened RAM standard with 4.1.7 and above. If you haven't installed any third party RAM then no need to worry. And most vendors will replace the RAM with modules up to spec if you call and ask, or you can search for and use the program DIMMFirst Aid to change the timing and force it to work.
