I have a problem with the MacPro. It has slowed down significantly. "open error 5 input/output error an applications/textedit/app/ contents. there is more but I can't get to the end of the sentence. It is a xeon Intell. Can't find the paper work as we are remodeling. Can you give me a clue as to what I need to do. The little rainbow button is going round and round and it has gone from hyperspeed to slow speed. I am pretty fresh from PC to Mac and I knew there would be problems. Just depend on your expertise to help me straighten these out. If I have to use the CD's how do I attach and use my WD external HD that is preformatted for a PC for back up? One thing at a time, I know.

I have run the utility twice for verify and repair. Cannot repair. Any help?

When does this error occur? What are you doing to cause it? Have you installed anything recently? Does it occur in the test or any other user accounts? Have you tried disconnecting all peripherals? The error message doesn't explain much. More details about how to reproduce the problem would be helpful.

It sounds like a hard drive problem.
