I've got my last name registered and hosted (mainly for email purposes, but now I'm getting ready to develop the site a little more).

I really like the ease of use of .mac and was wondering if anyone was (or has any ideas about) using .mac/iPhoto in conjunction with another website.

I assume the easiest way would be to create a link to the photo album to open in a new window (or possibly even frame).

Or perhaps use iPhoto to generate the pages, then edit the HTML to set the pointers to a different directory on the server that's hosting the site.

Any suggestions?

i *think* that when you create a page with iPhoto, it creates the html page, and that it is not modified until you edit it via the appropriate section of mac.com. So I think your idea about editing the pages it created ought to work. I assume that you mean adding navigation that would link to the rest of your site.

iPhoto also has the ability to export photos into html pages locally as well. So you can export an album as a web page, edit it to make it fit in with your web page, and then upload it to your own server. I did that for a little while, until I wanted more control over the output.

There is a piece of software for iPhoto called BetterHTMLExport that you might find interesting. There is an article about it here. You can use it to impliment custom templates for the pages, so you could, for example, have it include site navigation on each page.

I'm still at a loss for the best way to get the strengths of each (.mac's nice auto web photo album/slide show, and the flexibility of creating a page with something like Dreamweaver).

I'm not impressed with either Photoshop's or Dreamweaver's web photo album generation.

Any other suggestions?

One thing I want to do is to incorporate my naviagtion menu at the top of each page.

Is it possible to set it up to include certain HTML code at the top of each page? The HTML would be the same for all of the indees/images in the particular album.

I don't know how customizable .mac is, but could you hack and slash something using an iframe?

.mac seems to be quite an effort to do any meaningful customization (if using the iPhoto generated album and editing all pages).

I'm also trying to avoid frames if at all possible.

Quickie Web Album looks like it might not be a bad solution. $23 is a little more than I was looking to pay, but shouldn't take too long to pay for itself.

you can customize it as extensively as you want as the interface is separated from the code and full instructions are included along with a handful of premade themes to help get you started. So adding a nav menu shouldn't take much doing

Thanks again, and myPhoto looks great...but I've decided to take a different approach.

I'm playing around with postNuke and Gallery (as a module). Definitely has some benefits (database, dynamic content, interaction, etc), but I'll keep this information bookmarked if I end up sticking with HTML in the future.
