Any chance your ISP is injecting the ads on their end?

This particular type of permanent overlay has never, ever happened to me on any other website.

And willy.tel, my ISP, has never seemed in any way nefarious or shady in any regard.
At one point, they merely wrote me a letter after the fact to inform me that my upstream had been upgraded from 20 Mbit to 30 Mbit.

So…probably not.

Happening to me too

Any chance these scummy ad practices are not from Macnn?

Considering that we don't have that ad placement contracted, I'd say yes.

Well, since they happen only on the MacNN site, and have been happening off and on for YEARS now, it would seem that your ad-contractor deals with some scummy clients.

Its possible. I've been looking into it.

We don't have a lot of interface with the ad team over here on editorial.

You've got more contact with the ad team than we do. I don't even have a name to contact. So I forward complaints to M or yourself.

Aaaaand we're rolling back to April of 2013.

Thanks for the ride.

They seem to have passed for now; if they're back regularly, I'll just no longer visit from iOS for a while.

I've seen this happen over multiple sites over the years. For a while an online ad company seems to be on the up and up, then all sorts of BS ads get thrown into it, which causes the end user (us) to sit back and say "WTF?". Sadly, it most instances, the site owners (or marketing folk or those that can make those decisions) have no clue until someone perks up.

In that vein, am I supposed to translate total silence as "we've checked Appsnack, so are utterly at a loss until subego can fire up the Safari developer menu"?

I kept getting this beauty last night on my iPad.
It was the first such ad like that I've ever seen.

By the way...I was trying to post that screenshot from my iPad last night, and every time I clicked the Image or Link buttons in the MacNN Message editor, Safari would crash immediately. Is that normal behavior for MacNN on iOS?

Ok...here's something weird that just happened. I clicked on this thread from the main forum page, and got a redirect to this address: clm.afftrack.com/blank

Also on mobile Safari.

You guys aren't experiencing non-stop 'NN crashes on Safari?

I've switched to Chrome on iOS because of how many "this page has stopped responding" errors I've received.

We've had some bad ads crop up from our vendors on the homepage. I wonder if Thorzdad's problem is related.

Jawbone - no problems here, Yosemite, Safari.
