Well, here's a 1.5 year old Ti, 1GHZ:

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=2708,"Amperage"=2,"Current"=2682,"Vol tage"=16725

The slow drain has begun.

On a two year-old battert from a Ti667 I get:

"Capacity"=3355,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=3265

Since *most* of the time my TiBook sits around on my desk connected to mains, I've taken to just removing the battery when I'm at home and running off the power supply... I can't tell if this has really done much for my batter life, but it *feels* like it has helped it to stay in better condition. Is this an illusion?

Besides the occasional recalibration does anyone have any tips for prolonging the life of a rather pricey 'accessory'?

The 15" and 17" do not share the same battery. The 17" battery is much larger in capacity and physically as well.

That said, I have two batteries. One is of the original 46-watt hour battery size from the Rev. A 15" Aluminum Powerbook (mine was a 1.25Ghz when I had it) That received the following:

{"Capacity"=4050,"Amperage"=1652,"Current"=3738,"V oltage"=11620,"Flags"=4})

My newer 50-watt hour battery that now comes standard in the Rev. B 15" AluPB (I have a 1.5Ghz now) received this:

({"Capacity"=4476,"Amperage"=1758,"Current"=4277," Voltage"=11951,"Flags"=4})

why does mine say this on my 2 year old 667 DVI:

| | | | "IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=65006,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=64715 ,"Voltage"=16239,"Flags"=838860805})

when i know its fried. The battery percent goes 99, 98, 7, 3, 1, off (not sleep) in about 25 min. And it doesnt say any numbers in between, it just drops. i've tried calibrating it too with no luck.

On my 15", Capacity is 4563. This is a new battery that I bought as a backup (which sat in the box since the new 15"ers were released, guess that doesn't hurt 'em.) Also I properly charged and discharged this battery the first time I used it (fully charge it, let the computer eat all the juice until it goes to sleep, then fully charge it again.)

IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=4518,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=4517," Voltage"=12569,"Flags"=838860805})

it's always been that high of a capacity...

From my 12 inch Powerbook:

SMEG:~ ruud$ ioreg -l |grep -i IOBatteryInfo
| | | | "IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=21609,"Amperage"=1237,"Current"=19937 ,"Voltage"=11087,"Flags"=4})

Capacity 21609 !!!

Once updated the system (OS X) on my powerbook with the version that Apple withdrew a few days later. During the update the system had fallen asleep or shutdown due to lack of power.
When it was installed teh remaining time it calculated was a few hundred hours. Nowadays it doesn't even finish calculating time.
Fully loaded the battery gets to 99% and over time and use it will go down to 84%. Then the computer goes to sleep without any warnings. When I charge it when powered on it starts charging at 0% and goes up to 99%.

Guess I'll just have to wait untill I need a new battery.

Capacity=770
Amperage=1200
Current=770
Voltage=16617

This is on the battery that came with my 2.5 year old Ti 667 (VGA). I can get up to 45 minutes out of it.... Luckily, I have a second battery (I ordered it at the same time I ordered my TiBook, but I received it before) that performs much better:

Capacity=2387
Amperage=1200
Current=2358
Voltage=16286

Time for a new battery (or better yet, a new computer)...

OK, here is the spec on my brand new to me super mint 800 DVI that I just upgraded to from a Ti550:

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=3587,"Amperage"=1147,"Curren$

Which, considering that it's almost 2 years old, I am quite happy with.
(I'm getting a second battery though, as I like to be untethered for work)

My wife's beautiful Pismo, with a brand new battery from Newertech scored this:

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=10000,"Amperage"=1200,"Current" =0, $

So, I dunno... that seems kinda high, but she does get around 4+ hours with regular use.

Cheers,

My 7 month old Powerbook 15" posts a battery capacity of 3677. Does this mean it's bad? I thought from the beginning the battery would discharge a bit quick.
Should I call Apple and see if they'll exchange it? I'm stationed overseas so I don't have access to an Apple Store.

Question:

I'm running at ~4.21 capacity (I check using XBattery), but I've heard that it is healthy to slow-drain the battery every few months regardless of current capacity. Is this true?

I doubt it, mine is 8 months old and posts 2836. Note to self: Don't use the battery so much.

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=4477,"Amperage"=1182,"Current"=4173," Voltage"=12095,"Flags"=4})

This on a 2 month old Powerbook 12" (bought in May), using the battery that it came with. Running Mac OS X 10.3.4

Interesting that the Amperage and Current go down over time (I ran this several times) To be expected since I'm not plugged in at the moment.

My battery capacity is 5 times better than any other in this thread!

On the other hand, this might explain why my PB always shuts itself down when it reaches 89% battery capacity. Anyone know if it's possible to reset this somehow? (I've already tried to reset PMU and NVRAM)
As a matter of fact my second TiBook battery did the same (cap: 21K and down to 82%, charge up to 20%) less than 6 months after buying it at Miami Apple Store. Spent the good part of a day at the Genius Bar with them until finally they gave me a new one. There is no way to fix this (even tried unscientific methods such as the total drainage of the battery - until the green light at bottom will not even flash) leaving overnight in freezer, etc.). Maybe there is a cure, I still have it since Apple did not even take it back.

Here's mine:

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=3777,"Amperage"=1612,"Curren$

I have a 1.25GHz Rev A 15" AlBook purchased 2/12/04. Light use, mostly plugged in. I have tried some informal testing, and even when new, it seemed to go about 3 hours with normal use and less than 2 1/2 hrs watching a movie. It would be great if you could get 5 hrs on a charge.

Anyone know if you can condition the battery to improve its capacity? Also, can the 50 watt-hour rev B battery be used in a rev A AlBook?

Thanks.

Ti800

Well, after running my battery to death (died after sleep eventually) this is my score after a full charge:

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=3388,"Amperage"=1200,"Curren$

Running it dead took 200 units off my capacity! (3590 or so before run-down).

What's up with that?

Cheers,

Considering that the loss of battery capacity seems to be an issue why haven't any 3rd party vendors stepped in to make a higher capacity battery as they did for the Tibook?
I think I'd be well inclined to get one for use when I travel as I'm sure will others. It would be nice to be able to get 4 hrs while waiting at airports or on a plane (heck, even 3.5 hrs).

Just called Applecare and told them that my 7 month old battery only had a capacity of 3100 mAh, as opposed to the quoted figure of ~4200 in the Powerbook manual...Granted it's 8 months old but it should at least be somewhere near the 3800-4000 number. They will send me a new battery after a callback tomorrow.

This will be my second battery after I complained about the 10.2.8 update. That hosed my batt. completely, from 4hr to 2hr.

I actually think they sent me a 55 Watt battery last time round...Not a 61 Watt!

Nice service!

I have extended Applecare.

edit: use my tibook plugged in 90% of the time.

Since obtaining Capacity meter, I've noticed my battery degrading from 90% capacity to 75% in a matter of three days.

This battery was purchased on 1/7/04, so it's not that old, and I don't understand why it go out so quickly.

Here's my history for the last three days:

4130 90% 7/16/04
3836 83% 7/18/04
3462 75% 7/19/04

I mean, what gives? I know batteries are suppoed to degrade, but gradually... this is not gradually.

IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=3462,"Amperage"=1200,"Current"=88,"Vo ltage"=15529,"Flags"=838861191

(an aside...why aren't all the Instant vB Code buttons not working with Safari? This is a Mac site, right?)

Well, no callback, so I called them and asked what was happening with my battery. They put me through to customer services, where I was given a cs number and put back in touch with a tech. who sounded like he knew what he was doing!

My new battery should arrive next week wednesday!

Must say that I did have a female tech on the line once who made a complete new case and said that because batteries were chemical based, they couldn't provide a warrenty for the lifespan...I then quite firmly told that in my manual it stated 4200 mAh capacity, it was a replacement I was dealing with, and I suspected they sent me the wrong battery, AND that a previous tech had stated that I would be getting a new battery (which he did), and that they couldn't well go back on a promise...That got her to listen to me!

All in all, a bit of a long winded affair, but worth it.

With Capacity Meter, I'm seeing that I'm only getting 61%.

It's around 2 hours according to the meter in the Finder menu.

Any ideas? My iBook will be 2 years old come November.

Don't plan on getting replacement batteries anytime soon!

I was supposed to get a replacement one for my 15" Alum 1.25Ghz b/c my reading is 3500 and according to Apple the ETA for the next large shipment is Dec 28th. That being said, with their recent switch to their new CRM software, everything is messed up as you may well know. The CSR had a hard time believing that was the actual ETA to get them but there wasn't anymore info available just that the warehouses were all out, that there was a backlog of replacement battery requests, and the order scheduled for Dec was only slightly over 100.

so the max for revB 15" alu PB is 4600? so it's not related to the watt number right? cause the 58watt battery for the 17" seems to give the 17"-ers 5800 max. shouldn't the 50watt on the 12 and 15" give us 5000 then??

or are they not related at all?

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Voltage"=14684,"Flags"=4,"Amperage"=1061,"Capac ity"=1604,"Current"=784}$

Guess my battery is giving up the ghost. I get about 90mins of use max, but seeing as I rarely use it without mains power I don't really notice it. Time to get a new one I guess.
Should I buy an Apple battery or are there any others out there that perform better? Any suggestions?

Hi I have these values
Capacity 4633/4600 - 101% Execllent !!!!!!!!!!!!
Amperage 330
Current 4611
Voltage 16003
Charge 100%

"IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Capacity"=4633,"Amperage"=1085,"Current"=4311," Voltage"=15528,"Flags"=4})

It seems strange to me. 101% ? with around 2 hours of power supply on a battery that's nearly 2 years old?

Also I found this document at apple

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

It describes how to reset the various PMUs

Here's my battery stats after nearly a year of heavy use of my 12" PB 1GHZ G4, including travel and extended operation on the battery (at school, etc.)

I'm thinking it may be time to get a new battery. I start the next quarter of school today and have two back-to-back three hour classes. We'll see how the ole PB holds up!

Bump! My 1.5 year old Rev A 12" PB is holding up pretty fine. With 89% battery charge it's running at 71% capacity. That's not bad.

iBatt gave my 12in Rev c Powerbook a 'C' rating. Probably because I use it all the time, on battery life, and got it the day they came out. Curse you iBatt. Curse you to hell!

Yep, that's a whopping 998. This is a 1.5 year old Ti800DVI, but I really wish it wasn't suffering so bad. I get about an hour of use doing light work if I'm lucky.

That's on a two year and two months old 867 MHz TiBook. I can notice the shortened battery life but it's not terrible yet.

I just love that guy with the 667 TiBook that's only a year and half old. Time sure flies buddy!

My original capacity was 4200.
Now, after 15 months its down to 3750.
This still means >3.5 hours of coding.
