That's great!

Me and my brother did something similar on his Pc with cakewalk, when we were doing a bunch of Robert Johnson covers.

Here's a little song I did in 15 minutes using only the included loops. I don't have any past musical experience.

I found this on the Apple Discussions about Garageband. If you go to the left of the record button and drag up, there are more effects hidden there that you can choose.

Here is a pic of the new effects

a simple 1/4" to 1/8" adapter can be found in a lot of places for $1-$3 US (like Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, any place that sells portable audio) Ones with an extension cable (like apple is selling) can be found many places as well
Here's one for $6 US.

edit: BTW, great stuff everybody !! I haven't listened to absolutely every song posted yet ... has anyone been bold enough to lay down vocals yet ??

Now here is some great GB music

The guy used just GB loops then got his girl friend to sing into the iMic then released it to
www.garagebandcreations.com which is where it appears most GBers are hanging out.
Anyway he never told her and was not going to if no one liked it. Well so many people
said it was great he told her and though she is was totally embarrassed, she was also pleasantly
surprised that everyone likes her voice.

I played the guitar and bass in this one, and used GB Loops for the drum set in the background.

My two songs are made entirely of the included loops. Like most people I have no prior musical experience and made these by just having fun with GarageBand.

I present to you Utter Crap. Later on I went back to it and tweaked it some more. Here is the Utter Crap Remix. I hope you enjoy.

I played guitars and bass. The neck of my bass is warped, that is why it sounds so terrible (because it's impossible to play with the strings a whole centimeter above the frets).

This is literally the first thing I recorded in GarageBand. If I were to do it over it would probably sound a lot better.

For those who are interested I tried my best to reproduce Steve's "on-the-fly" creation he made during the keynote. Some of the loops he pulled from his favorites so they're not all going to sound the same.

hey i told you it was all GB loops.

they plan to remix it with better loops
but you have to admit it is darn good and worthy of air play even.

Nothing that special _just made a loop for a friend's Flash project (kids math game) with the included loops in GB. Only took like 30 min. to do, and the last half of that was fine tuning. For a first shot, I kinda like it.

I went a little nuts once I got my guitar connected Garage Band and found some loops I liked. Kinda cool, but kinda crappy at the same time.

Just jamming around on one chord..haven't yet figured how to program in chord changes. I'm playing a fretless jazz bass plugged in to the audio in, which I must confess, I'm impressed by the quality of.

One really cool thing you can do with garageband is to mix up instruments from different parts of the world that are radically different...they sound amazing together. This particular song used an congo beat and mandolin playing, which I think are the coolest parts of the song. I like that the samples aren't all electronic-sounding too-it's nice to have (comparitively) warm, earthy samples to work with.

Here are three things I've learned by using GB:

1) I suck
2) I really suck
3) Goto 1)

But seriously, one gripe I have about GB is its lack of sounds (samples). I have this idea for something but I can't get the right sound. So, I feel like I should get the Jam Pack, but how do I know THOSE sounds don't suck?

Also, finding the right drum beat is a PAIN IN THE ASS. I know they did their best, but my God, I can't tell you how many times I thought I had something because it said "techno" only to find what I want in something like "Dance beat 498".

You can convert the files in itunes. If you highlight something aac (or several somethings)...

Advanced>convert selection to Mp3. It puts it in the same directory as the .aac file(s)

As a guitar "player", I found Garage Band's included amps to be pretty bland and lacking a certain mid-range growl that I love to hear without using massive amounts of distortion. So, I decided to plug in my Rat to my guitar, wah and Mac, and dial in some decent EQ settings. The results? I like the tone much, much better, and I just recorded my second half-assed wank-fest with it.

OK. I decided to join in. Try not to laugh too hard. Hard as it may be.

It is with much shame and humility I unleash:
Froot Loops

Not exactly sure what "sound" I was going for here. This was done entirely with the included loops (don't have the Jam Pack yet). I did have to transpose some of the stuff (bass and guitar mainly) to fit with the strings etc (heh, I wouldn't have known what the hell that was a couple of days ago). It is a "work in progress".

Unfortunately I don't have an audio interface yet, or I would have added my own guitar.

Actually, I don't think I did too bad considering this is my first experience with audio mixing/editing software. Well, my wife seems to like it

For all of you doing loop-based songs, what kind of system are you using? My G3 iBook 700 with 384 MB or RAM really starts to top out at about 3-4 tracks. Are there some tricks some people are discovering? Or will I be stuck buying a G5? (Darn, well, you gotta do what you've gotta do )
