We finally got the firmware upgraded, and the Seagate 40Gb hard drive (as MASTER) installed.

Now it's time to install OS.10.3 on this iMAC G3.

I have set up my 8Gb partition for the system, but OSX refuses to let me select this partition (or any partition) for installation. The partition is a JORNALIZED.

What I am doing wrong?

dont repartition for one, second, are you trying to do an archive/install or erase/install or what. If all else fails target disk the computer in to another mac, and install from that other computer.

Your sig is way too big. It's iMac, OSX and Destination drive, btw.

Don't partition. It's a waste of space. This isn't a peecee.

Are you installing on an iMac tray loader?

On older G3's, the FIRST partition has to be 4GB or less. Yes its stupid, but that's the way it is. (You will not find this problem easily on Google BTW), but try it, it is.

Try doing a low level format, (doing the zero and ones thing), it will take a while but that might fix it.

It's 8GB, but yes, on tray-loaders, OS X must be installed on a partition that resides wholly within the first 8GB of the disk. I usually set it to 7GB just to be safe.

Once had the same problem, boot off the install cd, partition your drive then format it, reboot off the install cd again and you should be able to select it.
