I see that the new G5 supports optical audio out. Does this mean, that it will decode dolby sourround sound if I hook up one to a stereo receiver that supports sourround sound?

My gut says absolutely. The version of DVD Player that comes with Panther ought to enable you to do this without a problem.

Screen capture of the DVD player coming with 10.2.7 (on new G5, reportedly)

Dolby Surround is not Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. It's crappy ol' Pro Logic Surround.

But will it support DTS?

I'll go out on a limb and say that Dolby Digital is part of the menu that would come up if you clicked on Sound type button, and DTS, too.

Remember, not every DVD has 5.1 surround. If the player is smart, it will simply reflect what the options are for each dvd.

Yeah according to the rumors, DTS is part of the pull-down menu.
