Unfortunately like every new release panic app you can find about 3 bugs in 10 seconds of using it but it is still nice.
Wish I was in my desktop more to see this app, personally I always have a browser open covering my desktop.

Stattoo is a nice try, but ultimately pretty lame. As you say, open windows and apps pretty much block it most of the time, and there is exactly ONE axis you can move it. At least Konfab you can position the modules anywhere on the screen. Maybe if Stattoo could be resized/stacked vertically or something it would be more useful, but otherewise, I give it a hearty "meh".

Yep, I don't know what this information on your desktop hype is all about anyway as I don't know ANYONE who sits there with their desktop showing.
Also, the weather cannot be shown in metric.
It seems to use less CPU then that hog Konfabulator.

Yup..I played with Kon a bit, it was fun, but ultimately useless, as the menu extras do the same functions smaller, faster and 100% pervasively. I think the sole purpose of Kon is for people who uploads their 'kewl' desktops...

I'm sorry, but I find Stattoo totally lame. There doesn't seem to be a plug-in system and the thing is always obscured by the desktop. Using the hotkey brings it up for about 1/2 second and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it. Plus the text is really hard to read when it's in the background. Yuck.

Really everything it does is already done, or can be done through a menuling. Plus those are always viewable.

exactly, but it does it in one app
it is easily visable by "show desktop" expose settings.
plus, it does eveything in one app (what you want). everything looks simple and consistant.

I never understood the need to see my system's stats ALL THE TIME. Windows users do that a lot - like they have to be warned of impending doom .

This isn't about stats really, that is left for that silly iPulse thing.
Stattoo is more about weather, date and CD's playing, all of witch is rather unimportant.

Weather's good for me since I sometimes take a walk at lunchtime.
Time is good for me since I need to know if it's time to leave .
The date's pushing it .

I installed Stattoo, it was cool, but took up way too much space, also, It didn't have enough options for the view, so I took it off.

Uh, I can, but last time I checked the window kinda kept me from knowing if I need a jacket. I keep trying to put my hand through it but it doesn't budge. Also, How do I know if there's a massive thunderstorm rolling in from the west? I'm facing east.

But don't you have to keep the Mail.app running for the Mail-capsule to work?
makes it kinda useless..
They should've made the capsule a standalone pop/imap-checker instead.

Not so. Stattoo respects the U.S./Metric "measurements" preference in the "Formats" tab of the International Preference Pane.

Other Portland.
I'm not sure what's up with your setup - it definitely worked for me. I had metric chosen the first time i launched Stattoo, and it was correct right off. You realize you have to restart Stattoo, right?

ya these bugs are very typical for Panic apps. I seriously found 3 bugs in under 30 seconds of using it.

Transmit was unusable for over 2 years it was so buggy. It still has lots of bugs with some servers.
Unison was also full of so many bugs the first update a week later cured like 30 bugs. It is still completely useless for me as it crashes when I load some images. Not just on my computer, on every one I tried it on.

from the tenor of these posts, you'd think that Panic was increasing the cost of all new computers as well as Pepsi just to cover this app.
the fact that they support dual monitors from the first release puts them about 10 releases ahead of the dock in my book. all they really need to do is make the capsules left-align capable and i'm down.

Very cool app... and if you want it to run with no Dock icon go to /Applications/Stattoo.app/Contents/Info.plist and add this:
Code:
<key>LSUIElement</key>
<string>1</string>

That's interesting, but what are your "three bugs" that you "found withing the first 30 seconds" using this app?
Just curious since you've mentioned it twice, but never talked about anything specific at all.

Now that they've got this off their plate, maybe they can devote some development resources to Audion.

Metric system doesn't work, The app wouldn't let me open the prefs if I moved the app. It crashed when changing modules.

Speaking of reading prefs, I find it frustratingly amusing that the time prefs (I prefer 24-hour clock with leading zero, as in 09:00) is ignored. I presume the time prefs are ignored as well.
Laughingly, expose moves these desktop apps out of the way. That's the one way I was sure I could quickly see it.
Oh well, it's a nice first cut. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next.

I'd heard something a while back about releasing some sort of an SDK. As of now, though, that SDK doesn't seem to be offered. I hope this is corrected soon.

Pity. That makes it significantly less useful for me. There are only two capsules (not counting those which duplicate the functionality of menulings built into the OS) which I can even use, and one of them (weather) doesn't seem to be working right. With an SDK, more modules could be built, or existing ones could be improved (for example, the Mail one could be made to not lock you into Mail.app).
