Hey Guys,

I was reading your comments in this thread. iFixit recently did a break-down of the new Verizon iPhone and found that it has both GSM and CDMA slots. Now this makes things a lot clear about Apple's intentions...Isnt it?

Also the Verizon iPhone and AT&T one are similar looking but both have separate layouts be it screws, size of individual components...etc...

Well, it does make sense, that way one phone layout does both systems. I am assuming that as Apple sells out of their AT&T only phones, the new ones will be dual slot for AT&T also. I hope this opens the way for competition with, say, T-mobile which has better rates.

Whoa, hold on.

The Verizon iPhone 4 has a dual-mode GSM and CDMA chip, but doesn't have a slot for a SIM card (or room). If and when we are going to see the same iPhone on either carrier, Apple's going to have to redesign the iPhone. The current Verizon iPhone is just that: An iPhone that will only be sold on Verizon.

Plus, the antenna issue. They had to re-design the antenna to work for CDMA.

It's gonna be an additional challenge to make an antenna that works equally well with GSM and CDMA.

It already has three antennas for wifi-bluetooth, gps and gsm (or cdma), because a single antenna cant be optimal for different frequencies.

Death grip issue confirmed on Verizon iPhone:

Verizon iPhone 4 antenna problems persist (video) | iLounge News

here's the relevant quote:

"Updated: We’ve added pictures above showing how a normal grip on the bare phone can reduce Verizon’s four-bar signal down to one bar, along with the Speedtest results—a 1.1Mbps download speed gets cut down to 0.1Mbps, and uploads are cut from 0.5Mbps down to 0, or no uploading capability. "

Lots of Facetime issues for people coming from Alltel legacy plans and/or Alltel hardware serving their area (exact problem isn't clear yet).

Apple - Support - Discussions - Unable to activate Face Time on Verizon ...

My mom is having this problem too.

Looks like Verizon's launch isn't so flawless.
