I've been trying to remotely back up a few files on a website.
I tried

$ curl http://www.website.com/directory_I_want_to_backup -o /local_directory --create-dirs

But I only downloaded the directory_I_want_to_backup page. I want to download the entire directory, as well as the diretories inside it. Am I going about this in the wrong way, or is there something I'm missing?

I don't see a recursive option for curl in the man page. Check out wget. There's a "Recursive Retrieval Options" section in the man page.
